People are consuming at an alarming rate. Excuse the expression 'like pigs to the slaughter'. But really, are retailers truly making money when margins are slashed by 40 to 70 percent as early as December 1st?

I can attest that even a weak economy hasn't stopped American shoppers from hitting the malls, at least in Texas. I'm currently in Houston and went to a local mall and it was packed in every single corridor and store. The only store that was relatively empty was Swarovsky. I admit that my mighthy Canadian dollar was worth a lot, but shopping in a mall with such craziness is impossible to make a sound choice even if everything was on sale at at least 50% off. It's bizarre how we are driven to consume so much in so little time!
