Oh how I wish for the day when people stop applying the word ‘couture’ to totally inappropriate products, such as fragrances. I didn’t think much of Forbes’ list of the most powerful editors. What they quantified- circulation, ad pages, website hits- measures success in gaining readership, not influence, which are very different things. After all, Anna Wintour’s Vogue may not have the largest circulation but which editor supports new designers as aggressively as she? Connects designers to companies, brokers deals, represents American designers abroad? The editor of Glamour, whatever her name is, has a big readership but that’s it.
