Inside the Studio | Giles Deacon | Chapter II

“A Designer Who Has Always Drawn…”

Giles Deacon began drawing at the age of three, so it’s not surprising that illustration forms a fundamental part of his creative process.

The second chapter of Giles’ story uncovers the organised randomness behind Giles’ arresting design concoctions, often starting with a sketch. He explains how designs like the now iconic Pacman dress from Spring/Summer 2009 and the much talked-about Bambi dress from Spring/Summer 2008, which landed on the front cover of the New York Times, were conceived and developed.

  1. interesting to hear about how a dress like the bambi one can be inspired from happening upon an old record. looking forward to the next episode.

  2. Thankyou for these, they’re amazing. Inspirational and eye opening. Giles has always been my favourite designer and now that I’ve seen these, it just cements that and gives me an understanding why I was drawn to his work in the first place. These films are really well produced to. Nice to see some thought has gone into the production.

    Well done.

  3. i found the video very frustrating to watch. i live in india and internet connections generally tend to be slower the video kept buffering throughout. i think for reasons like these it would be thoughtful and nice to allow people to download videos. otherwise it is no fun.
