Hello:
I am writing from Portland Fashion Week, the fashion week that has been recognized by world press, including BOOK MODA, Milan, as the first sustainable production of a fashion week and "eco-fashion platform par excellence". I humbly want to bring your attention to the "FIRST" serious and organized showcase of eco-sustainable fashion...that is Portland Fashion Week.
In Portland Fashion Week 2007, we lauched S/S 08 collections of major eco-fashion leaders, like Lara Miller (Chicago), Stewart+Brown (CA), Del Forte (CA), NatureVsFuture (NY), Anna Cohen (OR), Lizzie Parker (WA), Nike's eco-friendly Cosidered collection, even leading British eco-label Izzy Lane....it was even covered in BOOK MODA Italy and SVD, Sweden. The whole production of the event was sustainable as well -- from babmoo runway, to eco-friendly styling products to eco-friendly swag bag to low-power LED lighting. The effort continues today in the successive Portland Fashion Weeks, as was even reported in September Lufthansa In-flight Magazine, a dedeicated digital-spread of Spin Magazine, and Surface Magazine in September/Ocotber 2009...So, the news is out there.
I appreciate the effort of any company's sustainable effort, and any press highlighting that effort, but, I urge the broader fashion world, including fashion press to be more investigative in looking at the real and serious movement in eco-fashion, not, peripheral eco-efforts of traditionally polluting labels.

I agree with Gilhart that design is incredibly important in sustainable fashion - if clothing does not look and feel great on the body, it won’t sell well, regardless of how green it is. But beautifully designed sustainable clothing is instantly coveted.
