PPR on watch for luxury ‘reinforcements’ (FT)
“PPR is considering using cash generated by the sale of its retail assets for more luxury ‘reinforcements’, says chief executive François-Henri Pinault. ‘We have been talking about investing in a new luxury name’ says Mr Pinault. If PPR were to launch a new house, it would mark the first start-up by a major group since, in its earlier incarnation as Gucci, the company bought Alexander McQueen and started a joint venture with Stella McCartney in 2000.”

Singapore Welcomes French Couture (IHT)
“When Yiqing Yin showed her gentle, beautifully crafted collection under the banner of Haute Couture Fashion Week here this month, she was, to a certain extent, going ‘home.’ The Chinese-born, Paris-based designer was one of a handful of experimental designers, high on handwork, who were picked to show their creations in Singapore at the beginning of December.”

The start-ups that favour New York over Silicon Valley (BBC News)

Fashion and Products for a Sustainable World (IHT)
“Mr. Zeitz is not dreaming of a ‘green’ Christmas. He has a much wider vision of a world in which environmental consciousness and sustainability is a built-in factor to product sourcing and design every day of the year. ‘We should make it part of the DNA of brand as a new definition of quality,’ Mr. Zeitz said.”

Chinese models in spotlight (China Daily)
“It may be some time before the catwalks of Shanghai and Beijing reach the showy heights of Paris or Milan, but with the country’s increasing commercial power and influence, China’s fashion models are grabbing more of the international spotlight.”
