MILAN, Italy — State general prosecutor Gaetano Santamaria has called for the acquittal of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana during the first hearing of the pair's appeal against their conviction for tax evasion last year. Santamaria told the court that they should find in favour of an acquittal "as the case is groundless."
The designers were convicted in relation to the 2004 sale of the Dolce & Gabbana and D&G brands to the designers’ holding company, Gado Srl, based in Luxembourg. An Italian court ruled in favour of the nation’s tax authority in March of 2013, awarding a fine of 343.3 million euros.
