LONDON, United Kingdom — Even the full-on schedule of New York Fashion Week couldn't compete with Apple's mega-sized new product launch, its biggest since the unveiling of the iPad, as scores of regular fashion show-goers decamped to Cupertino in California's Silicon Valley for the unveiling of the Apple Watch.

On Tuesday, Net-a-Porter's Natalie Massenet, Vogue Italia's Franca Sozzani, Colette's Sarah Lerfel, British Vogue's Alexandra Shulman, Purple Magazine's Olivier Zahm, Derek Blasberg and many others instagrammed and tweeted from the Apple Keynote presentation led by the company's chief executive, Tim Cook.

So, what's the verdict? Early reaction is mixed. While some people can't wait to get their hands on Apple Watch, others seem disappointed that the company did not unveil a more innovative design. The Apple Watch looks like, well, a watch.

But, of course, aesthetics are only one consideration and, functionally, there was much to be excited about. Read BoF's in-depth analysis of the 6 core beliefs underlying the launch of the Apple Watch to get a sense for the company's strategy as it aims to transform a new product category.
