NEW YORK, United States — Jason Wu is set to take up the newly created position of Artistic Director for Hugo Boss' BOSS womenswear line, effective June 15, the company said in a statement. The 30-year-old, Taiwan-born designer, who founded his eponymous, New York-based label in 2007, will assume responsibility for all product and image-related components of Hugo Boss' primary women's ready-to-wear and accessory line.
“I have long been a fan of Hugo Boss’ vast tradition and lineage in extraordinary tailoring. With the state-of-the-art facilities that are unique to the Hugo Boss design labs, I plan to develop a strong, feminine womenswear collection that reciprocates the brand’s authority in menswear,” said Wu.
Hugo Boss will open a new design studio in New York, where Wu will be based, though the designer will also oversee a design team in Metzingen, Germany, where Hugo Boss is headquartered. Wu will continue to develop his own ready-to-wear and accessories collections under the Jason Wu label.
“We are absolutely delighted to have an outstanding talent like Jason Wu on board,“ said Claus Dietrich Lahrs, CEO of Hugo Boss. “This will generate a powerful and creative statement for BOSS womenswear and show our commitment to focus even more on the female side of the brand.”
The first BOSS womenswear collection designed by Wu will be Pre-Fall 2014. He will show his first runway collection for the brand during New York Fall/Winter Fashion Week in February 2014.
