Italian lensman Giampaulo Sgura is internationally renowned for his fashion photography, which is invariably injected with the romance and passion of his native country. French Vogue describes the photograher’s vision of women as “a balance between sensuality, femininity, and glamour.”
The photographer holds Richard Avedon and Irving Penn’s styles in great esteem, due to their focus on elegance, classical proportions and composition, three tenants that feature throughout Sgura’s photography. Sgura has shot campaigns fro Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli, Ermenegildo Zegna, Moschino, Emporio Armani and La Perla. He has contributed editorially to Vogue Italia, Italian Glamour, GQ, Vogue Portugal, Vogue Japan and Vogue Paris.
Sgura originally studied architecture at university but soon changed career to fashion photography; Sgura told Swide that he “originally wanted to be a fashion designer, but then I had the passion of this photography and the join of the two desires is how I became a fashion photographer.”
