Biography

Best known for her work as editor-in-chief of Arena Homme+, Jo Ann Furniss is an honest and opinionated fashion journalist and editor. Furniss regularly reviews key shows for Style.com, where her rigorous eye and practiced pen cogently unpick the most complex of fashion concepts for her readers.

Furniss’ seven year editorship of Arena Homme+, which commenced in 2004, would see her commission some of the best and most controversial photographers in the business, including Jurgen Teller and Steven Klein. Whilst editor Furniss would continue the publication’s unabashed editorial lean, defiantly placing creativity above commerciality in her commissioning of shoots.

Prior to her appointment at Arena Homme+, Furniss contributed to i-D, The Face, Sleazenation and AnOther Magazine. She has written for The New York Times, The Independent, Colors, Dazed and Confused, Vogue Hommes International, and Love.

Furniss edited ‘Making it up as we go along’ with Jefferson Hack, an account of Dazed and Confused’s first twenty years.
