One of the industry’s most feted young designers J.W. Anderson launched his career as a menswear designer in 2008, funding his own off-season showcase in London. Gaining renown through sponsored collections created for Topman, Anderson received sponsorship from the British Fashion Council’s NewGen committee and presented his first catwalk collection at London Fashion Week in 2010. The talented young creative also launched a capsule womenswear collection, at the request of fans, at the start of 2010. Receiving instant critical acclaim and commercial success, Anderson secured a second NewGen sponsorship and in 2012 was awarded the ‘Emerging Talent Award’ by the British Fashion Council.
In September 2012 Anderson collaborated with high-street giant Topshop on a hugely successful limited edition collection of clothing and accessories that sold out within hours of the launch. Anderson produced a second collection for Topshop in February 2013 and in June 2013 showcased his first collection for Versace diffusion line Versus, receiving industry wide acclaim.
In September of 2013, LVMH took a minority stake in J.W. Anderson and hired Anderson to take the creative helm at Loewe, an LVMH-owned brand based in Madrid and best known for its leather goods.
An alumnus of London College of Fashion, Anderson initially pursued a career in acting at the Studio Theatre in Washington D.C. An interest in costume design led to the Northern Ireland native to complete a degree in menswear design from which he graduated in 2005. Working as a visual merchandiser at Prada, under the tutelage of Miuccia Prada’s right hand, Manuela Pavesi soon after, Anderson honed his design direction before relocating to London to launch his eponymous label.
