Biography

With a frank, witty style, fashion journalist Lisa Armstrong was tapped to replace renowned fashion editor Hilary Alexander as head of The Daily Telegraph’s print and digital fashion team in 2011. Formerly fashion editor of The Times, Armstrong is a career journalist, having started as a fashion writer for Elle UK and British Vogue, where she eventually became fashion features editor. She is still a contributing editor to British Vogue and has also written for American Harper’s Bazaar, The Sunday Times, and The Financial Times, and has also authored four books.

Her articles, sharply observant and accessible, often have a dash of self-deprecation and cheek, but Armstrong treats her subjects seriously and isn’t afraid to tackle controversy. Of Hedi Slimane’s debut as creative director at Yves Saint Laurent, she felt that it “lacked the frisson of the unexpected” and also directly addressed the brand’s frequent name changes as confusing and excessive.
