PARIS, France — It’s easy to see why buyers like Rahul Mishra, as there’s always a market for pretty, immaculately crafted clothes. For spring, the rainforest in a broad sense (very broad, as Mishra went a bit off-piste and brought in swans and zebras) was the starting point of his collection, seen through the eyes of Henri Rousseau, the Naïve art painter.

There was some nice interplay between frills and pleats, alongside an interesting focus on shoulders – either revealing or exaggerating them with three-dimensional embroidery – and a kimono jacket that was made to wear back-to-front. Perfectly pleasant, but was it enough? After all, this is Paris. And pretty can only take you so far in this city.
