NEW YORK, United States — Marissa Webb, Banana Republic's creative director, will step down from a day-to-day role as the Gap Inc.-owned brand struggles to improve sales.
Webb, who joined the work-wear brand as creative director in April 2014, will focus more on her own private label. The retailer hired Webb, formerly at J. Crew, to help restore Banana Republic’s fashion credibility.
The brand has posted declining comparable-store sales for six of the past seven months, including an 11 percent drop in August. The company is scheduled to report same-store sales results for September after the market closes on Thursday.
