Suzy Menkes Joins Condé Nast International
After 26 years at The International New York Times, formerly known as The International Herald Tribune, fashion journalist and longtime runway show fixture Suzy Menkes has joined Condé Nast International as International Vogue Editor. In her new role, she is expected to continue to report on fashion shows and will have 'a permanent presence' on all non-US Vogue websites. Menkes will also spearhead an annual luxury conference for CNI, similar to the flagship IHT Luxury Conference she hosted. Her start date has yet to be announced.
Wayne Meichner Exits Ralph Lauren
Changes abound at the senior level of Ralph Lauren. Following Valérie Hermann's appointment to Ralph Lauren Luxury Collections, Wayne Meichner, president and chief operating office of Ralph Lauren Retail Group, will leave the American fashion brand. In his place, Joy Herfel will take up the newly-created position of group president of wholesale and retail for the Americas. Meichner joined the company's Polo division in 2002 after two decades at Saks Fifth Avenue, where he was the executive vice president of merchandising. A spokesperson said his official exit is still months away.
Chief Executive Herbert Hainer to Helm Adidas Through 2017
German-based sporting goods brand Adidas has extended its chief executive Herbert Hainer's contract through to March 2017, a move supported by its supervisory board. Hainer has led the global sportswear brand since March 2001. It is said that under his leadership, the value of the company has increased more than five times, according to Igor Landau, chairman of the supervisory board. The move will also give the company "sufficient time to ensure a smooth transition at the helm of the Adidas Group and to optimally facilitate the process of succession for the company."
Harvey Nichols Hires Anita Barr as Fashion Buying Director
Anita Barr has joined Harvey Nichols as group fashion buying director, starting 31 March. She succeeds Paula Reed, who departed last October for luxury e-tailer My-Theresa.com, and will oversee womenswear, menswear, and accessories. Barr will report to Stacey Cartwright, who was named chief executive of the London luxury retailer last month. Prior to this, Barr was global product merchandising director at AllSaints and has also worked at Harrods and Selfridges.
Fabio Mancone Joins Parent Company of Sandro, Maje
SMCP Group, the holding company that owns French contemporary labels Sandro, Maje, and Claudie Pierlot, has hired Fabio Mancone as head of global branding and business development strategies, a newly-formed role. Formerly a longtime executive at Giorgio Armani, where he was chief executive of the retail division for France and Benelux, Mancone has also managed communications and image strategy. He will be based in Paris and lead moves into new product categories such as accessories.
New Look Chairman Alistair McGeorge Steps Down
Alistair McGeorge, largely credited with turning around the British high street fast fashion chain when he joined in 2011, has left the company. Under his leadership, private equity owned New Look refinanced £1 billion in debt and became profitable. His exit follows his move from executive to non-executive chairman last October. McGeorge is thought to be returning to an executive role abroad. Founder Tom Singh will take over as non-executive chairman until a replacement has been named.
Orlebar Brown Hires Sara Ferrero as Chairwoman
Swimwear brand Orlebar Brown has added Sara Ferrero as chairwoman. She joins after a five-year stint as chief executive at Joseph, where she repositioned the British high street label as an upmarket contemporary retailer and expanded it to markets abroad. Prior to that, she ran Italian accessories label Furla for five years. Co-founder Adam Brown says, "We are delighted to welcome Sara as chairwoman. She is widely respected in the fashion industry and has an enviable track record in growing luxury designer brands."
