LONDON, United Kingdom — Since 2015, BoF has teamed up with industry experts to craft a suite of self-directed courses, designed to empower our community and the wider fashion industry.

Have your say in what courses we should develop next here.

Of our most recent participants, 90 percent say their courses met their objectives — and 92 percent say they enjoyed their chosen courses. One course graduate told BoF her course helped her “get a job as a buyer at Bloomingdales,” and it is exactly these kinds of outcomes that BoF hopes to continue to provide its community.

Now BoF wants to hear from you, to learn what topics, tutors and course formats you believe would most effectively accelerate — or forge — your career in fashion today. We invite you to take our quick survey to inform the creation of BoF's new interactive courses for 2019; if you don't see a topic you want, comment below to let us know what subjects matter most to you.

Globally renowned stylist Lucinda Chambers shares her knowledge from 36 years at the forefront of magazine publishing as fashion director of Elle UK and British Vogue. “I would love to say that I came out of the womb with an incredible sense of fashion or style or passion or sense of what I wanted to be doing in life and that would just be lying,” says Chambers. “If you have that grain of thought, if you have that germ of interest, it’s a skill that you can learn.”

Drew Elliott, the co-owner and chief creative officer of PAPER Communications, the renowned New York publishing and communications company, unpacks his "math plus magic" formula for content creation: "Instead of being publishers, instead of being content creators, we need to be entertainers. That's what we need to focus on, because audiences are looking more and more to entertainment."

Farfetch's brand and strategy director Susanne Tide-Frater, whose experience spans Victoria Beckham, Selfridges and Harrods, divulges the basics to starting a career in buying and merchandising, which she says is "really about the weird and wonderful tension between art and science. It's about the business of fashion and those two facets are intrinsically essential for the system to work."

Musa Tariq, who has held leadership roles at Burberry, Nike, Apple, Ford, and now Airbnb, shares in his course "Build Your Dream Career" how to prepare for the next step in your career. "You're always being recruited by someone," says Tariq. "What you want to do is tell the story you want to tell versus the story that has already been told about you. This is a set of tools and ideas that anyone can apply to their lives. The only thing I need you to have is a bit of hustle."

Finally, noted fashion historian Colin McDowell MBE, formerly the chief fashion writer of The Sunday Times Style and founder of the Fashion Fringe initiative, takes participants through essential fashion moments of the 20th century: "We look at the fascinating period of fashion, which started with The New Look coming right up to Alexander McQueen, another cataclysmic moment in fashion."
