LONDON, United Kingdom — This week, fashion's rumour mill went into overdrive, as LVMH fielded reports that it will sell DKNY and Louis Vuitton quashed rumours that Nicolas Ghesquière is on the way out. Meanwhile, Peter Copping's exit from Oscar de la Renta kick-started speculation that Francisco Costa, Alber Elbaz or Monse's Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim could take the reins.

2016 is, however, turning into a more difficult year than expected for the luxury sector. In France, three terrorism-related atrocities in 18 months have made analysts reconsider the long-term impact of terrorism on the country's $18 billion luxury goods sector. Elsewhere, Tiffany CEO Frederic Cumenal unveiled his plan to overcome sliding sales at the jewellery house — first up, a celebrity-fronted ad campaign, conceived by Grace Coddington.
