John Galliano Named Creative Director of L’Etoile
John Galliano has become creative director of Russian perfumery chain L’Etoile. The designer, who was dismissed from his post at Christian Dior after making anti-semetic remarks and had since withdrawn from the industry, will create campaign imagery and other communication assets for the brand. In addition, Galliano will play a role in the development of makeup and accessories collections, which will be part of L’Etoile’s "L’Etoile Selection" line. "[It is] a really exciting opportunity and challenge for me. I’m sure our collaboration working together will lead to the creation of new and exciting events in the world of beauty for Russian women. I believe that the results will be very beautiful and breathtaking," said Galliano in a statement.
Marco Franchini Steps Down as CEO of Valextra
Marco Franchini is set to exit the role of chief executive of Italian leather goods brand Valextra. “I really enjoyed the time I spent at Valextra. I think that now the company possesses the business organisation necessary to go to the next level," he said in a statement. "The warm and incredible involvement of my collaborators inspired me during this last year, when we made major steps toward the creation of solid roots for an ‘extraordinary’ brand.” Valextra's president Emanuele Carminati Molina has not yet named a successor, but said the company had already approached an “important figure with great experience.”
Steven Speaks Joins Oscar de la Renta as CFO
Steven Speaks will join Oscar de la Renta as its new chief financial officer on June 1st, replacing Giuseppe Celio who has exited the company. Immediately prior to his appointment, Speaks acted as regional head of global business services at Labelux Group, where the executive led logistics, IT and human resources for Bally, Belstaff and Jimmy Choo. “As we have added to our product range, our retail store count and geographical distribution, we have needed more experienced, hardworking intelligent people and to make sure that we’re all rowing in the same direction," Alex Bolen, chief executive of the Oscar de la Renta LLC said in a statement. Speaks has held senior roles at Chloé and Richemont.
Alex Gonzalez Named US Elle Creative Director
Hearst-owned Elle (US) has tapped Alex Gonzalez to replace Joe Zee in the role of creative director. Previously, Gonzalez was creative director of Town & Country (US) and Marie Claire (US) and will continue in his role at Town & Country alongside his work for Elle, which will likely first appear in the title's October issue. “Alex is a pro,” Elle editor-in-chief Robbie Myers told press. “Joe [Zee] did a great job at Elle. We rebuilt the roster of photographers and stylists. Alex has his own relationships and his own aesthetics. [But] he will be working within the codes of the magazine and bringing a fresh eye and energy.”
Stacy Van Praagh and Evelyn Kim at Reed Krakoff
Reed Krakoff has appointed Stacy Van Praagh to the role of president and Evelyn Kim to the role of as chief digital officer. Both Van Praagh and Kim will report to Mr Krakoff, who is both chief executive and chief creative officer at his namesake label. Van Praagh was previously president of North America for Fendi from 2009 to 2013 and has held roles at Oscar de la Renta, Kate Spade and Chanel, where she was director of ready-to-wear. “She’s someone who ran Fendi North America and did a fantastic job orchestrating the commercial business, both wholesale and retail. She has an amazing energy and enthusiasm for the business,” said Krakoff in a statement. The company’s first digital officer, Kim leaves her role as president, global digital marketing at Tiffany & Co.
Ron Thurston Joins Bonobos as Director of Retail
Bonobos Inc, the parent company of Bonobos and AYR, has named Ron Thurston its new director of retail. Thurston joins the company from Tory Burch to lead the operations and growth strategies for 'Guideshops,' Bonobos online to offline e-commerce store concept. “Ron’s hybrid experience across Apple, Gap and Tory Burch will help us continue to reinvent what clothing shopping means in an increasingly digital world. As we hit ten stores, we realize the need for a great people leader to scale the culture and the operations and Ron is the perfect fit," said Andy Dunn, founder and chief executive of the company.
Marcus Teo Joining Georg Jenson
American Vogue contributing sittings editor and prior editor of W magazine's men's portfolio, Marcus Teo will collaborate with David Chu, Georg Jensen’s chief executive officer and chief creative officer, to launch a men’s jewellery and watch collection. He will take on the title of vice president and creative director. “I’ll be working on all aspects of creative,” Teo told press. He will continue in his freelance role at American Vogue, as “it keeps my interest and inspiration going,” he said.
