OXFORDSHIRE, United Kingdom — The world is on fire. The causes are globalisation, technology, the climate crisis and generational change, but the antidote is culture and reimagining human values, according to this year's VOICES speakers. Here are a few highlights from The Business of Fashion's annual event:
Juergen Teller: The Challenges of Radical Image-Making The German photographer sat down with Editor-at-Large Tim Blanks to discuss the beauty and tragedy of life, and the existentialism of his work.
Trisha Shetty: Human Rights, Human Wrongs Showing up, speaking up, and continuing to stand in solidarity with those facing human rights violations is critical, the Indian social activist and lawyer urged on the BoF VOICES stage.
Why Genderless Fashion Is the Future Performance artist and designer Alok Menon argued that the fashion and beauty industries need to "de-gender" fashion to better represent trans and nonbinary people.
Inside Iran's Underground Fashion Industry Iranian-American activist Hoda Katebi joined Tehran-based fashion designers Shirin and Shiva Vaqar on-stage. Together, they discussed the fashion industry in Iran, a country that has long been isolated from the Western world.
Juliana Versus the US Government When Kelsey Juliana was 19, she and a group of her peers sued the US government for its decades of inaction against climate change. Juliana, who started speaking out against climate change at age 10, had one message to share at VOICES: every industry will be affected by the crisis, and everyone is responsible for avoiding a future in which no one can pursue what they love.
