LONDON, United Kingdom —This week, Brioni announced it was parting ways with creative director Justin O'Shea after only six months on the job. O'Shea, who was previously fashion director of MyTheresa and has no design experience, was certainly an unexpected choice for the role, but the sudden timing of the move raised questions as to what else may have triggered the exit. In other news, Hedi Slimane is suing Kering — again.
Elsewhere this week, LVMH took a majority stake in Rimowa, the German luggage maker known for its aluminium suitcases. The move follows the acquisition of Tumi by Samsonite for $1.8 billion. In a market for personal luxury goods where even blue-chip brands like Chanel and Hermès are facing challenges, growth in high-end tourism is expected to favour luggage.
