What would makes applicants stand out from their competitors?
MM: It’s important to think in different ways and adapt in different situations. I believe we have built an adaptable and nimble business, me, my sister and our team — so it’s key to be open to change and think flexibly through different scenarios and situations. We approach issues like we are solving a maths problem. A couple of sentences telling us how you have done this in the past would be advantageous. Be solutions-oriented rather than getting lost in negativity.
What advice can you share for the interview process?
MM: It hasn’t changed much for us. It will still be how we evaluate CVs but digital comms skills and discussion on how applicants have managed through these tough times, either a short line in their CVs or in interview, is always important. We used to give people surveys before face-to-face interviews and it was the same question: how have you overcome challenging times? So that’s important experience to share and a great example of how you use your skills and cope with situations.
What are the most important aspects of the role?
MM: Being a good planner and passionate about what you’re doing. These were always the top priorities and will remain so. Every person needs to be capable of completing their own risk analysis, and I believe communication skills are key and self-management. Those are the priorities.
