LONDON, United Kingdom – BoF compiles the most important professional moves of the week.

Kate Lanphear Named Editor of Maxim
Maxim, a New York-based title that dominated men's magazines in the 1990s, synonymous sexy, bare-it-all editorials, signalled that it was headed in a new direction with the announcement of Kate Lanphear as editor-in-chief. Lanphear was formerly style director at T: The New York Times style magazine and before that, Elle, where she became a recognisable street style star. In a brief statement on the Maxim site, Lanphear said, "I am thrilled at this opportunity to join Maxim as the brand embarks on a new chapter. I hope to cultivate and broaden Maxim's coverage of style and culture." Lanphear will work in conjunction with Paul Martinez, the magazine's creative director, and will begin building the rest of her team soon. Her first official issue will be March 2015.

Coach Appoints New President
Gebhard Rainer will join American luxury leather goods company Coach as president and chief operating officer, effective September 29. Formerly vice president and chief operating officer at Hyatt Hotels, Rainer has extensive international executive experience that the company hopes will give the New York-based brand a jolt. Rainer succeeds Jerry Stritzke, who left Coach 13 months ago. He will report to the brand's chief executive Victor Luis and be responsible for finance, information systems, logistics, operations and production. Rainer has over 30 years of industrial experience, working in senior operating and finance roles.

Apple Hires Marc Newson
Marc Newson is the latest world-renowned designer to join Apple. Newson, an industrial designer whose work has been featured by the Museum of Modern Art in New York, has created concept cars for Ford, designed plane seats for Qantas Airlines, and worked on various watches and furniture pieces. The Australian-born creative has been close friends with Apple's chief designer Jony Ive for years and recently collaborated on a collection for an auction organised by U2 singer Bono, which raised $26.2 million for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS in Africa. Newson continues a recent trend of Apple high-profile hires of people from outside the technology industry. Former Burberry chief executive Angela Ahrendts is running Apple's retail stores, while former Yves Saint Laurent chief executive Paul Deneve is working on "special projects."

GQ Names Style Director
British GQ has announced the promotion of Robert Johnston to position of style director, where he will oversee all style content across the men's interest monthly. Johnston, who joined the Condé Nast title in 2008, previously served as associate editor. GQ has been a preeminent men's style magazine since 1957. Editor-in-chief Dylan Jones recently won the Editor of the Year 2014 at the PPA Awards, while online fashion editor Nick Carvell was announced as Fashion Monitor's Online Fashion Journalist of the Year.

By Malene Birger Takes On New Team
Since the eponymous founder of Danish womenswear label By Malene Birger stepped down from her role as creative director earlier this year, the company has gone through a series of changes. Christina Exsteen has been promoted and is now head of design for the label's ready-to-wear line, while Giulia Bizzotto, who previously worked at Burberry and Lara Bohinc, has been added to the design team. The label also took on a new production manager, Deepa Hingorani Tarach, and a new marketing manager, Victoria Archer. Marlene Birger exited from the label in January to focus on her new design company Birger1962.
