The role

We are looking for a Data Scientist to join Farfetch in building the next-generation intelligent platform for online luxury fashion, powered by large-scale data. Your role will be Research and Development (R&D) to enable this platform with state of the art Deep Learning and Computer Vision methods entangled with Information Retrieval and Natural Language Processing algorithms. You will join a talented team of Data Scientists and Researchers working on the iFetch project in close partnership with 2 Portuguese Universities (Universidade Nova de Lisboa and Instituto Superior T├ęcnico) and Carnegie Mellon University.

What you'll do

  • Design and develop state of the art algorithms in Conversational Search;
  • Conduct practical research with a scientific mindset, and a focus on delivery;
  • Interdisciplinary collaborative R&D with all partners of the consortium namely, on the development of novel algorithms for Attention Base Multimodal Utterance Encoder/Decoder, Product Catalog Multimodal Knowledge Base and Shopping Dialog Management;
  • Drive the design of new features inside the company through the use of disruptive technologies;
  • Make scientific and technical publications in reference conferences and journals.

Who you are

  • A professional with a PhD in areas of knowledge such as Computer Vision, Machine Learning;
  • A professional with a minimum of 2 years' experience in a Data Science related role;
  • Committed to keep up to date with scientific advancements and publish in top-tier conferences (ICCV, ICML, ACM MM, NeurIPS) and scientific journals;
  • A professional with good understanding of Convolutional Neural Networks, Image Segmentation (e.g., SLIC, Saliency Maps, SuperVoxel, Hierarchical Multi-Scale methods), AutoEncoders, GANs;
  • Fluent in Python, common numerical and Math & ML packages (NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn, pandas, PyTorch);
  • Experienced in Big Data and Hadoop technologies like Spark, HDFS, and SparkSQL is a plus;
  • Non-relational databases (e.g., Cassandra, Big Query) and streaming platforms know-how (e.g., Kafka) is a plus;
  • A professional who possess excellent knowledge of the English language at a proficiency level (spoken and written).

Work with a talented team of Data Scientists, Engineers, and Product Designers to help build and optimise our data-driven products, through research and development in conversational search - a Farfetch-CMU Portugal flagship project.
