ABOUT THE TEAM

As a Head of DATA, you will gain end-to-end responsibility for the respective Technology Products in Enterprise Applications and Architectures department. You will lead all the functions to make the Enterprise Applications (with strong focus on SAP Retail, HANA, AWS) successful. You will be technical lead for migration project (migration from BW to BW4/HANA System, building SQL Driven Data Warehouse on HANA Enterprise). Together with Data teams you will be the front runner for designing, implementing, running Enterprise Big Data Warehouse in AWS and lead finance digital transformation efforts of Zalando Group.
WHERE YOUR EXPERTISE IS NEEDED
  • Establish strategic & tactical direction for the DATA organisation and solutions and ensure that projects and ops stay consistent with corporate goals
  • Drive SAP and non-SAP innovation by continuously reviewing and analysing the effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Responsibility for Business Warehousing implementation in the organisation
  • Defining and implementation of roadmap in DATA space.
  • Technical leadership: You provide the right guidance to your team and help them solve their technical questions, such as choice of tech stack, system architecture, code quality and system performance. You have a clear mid- and long-term technical vision for your products and foster close collaboration with other Engineering Leads to be in line with our overall tech strategy. You proudly represent Zalando at conferences and meetups and give technical talks.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • 10+ years experience in Data domain (focus BW, HANA AWS, Data Management, etc.) with a strong understanding of IT methodologies to drive the business requirements of the future state
  • Experience in coaching, team-building, and conflict resolution and bringing typically 5-7 years of people management experience in an agile development environment.
  • Previous experience within HANA native, Big Data Architectures as either SAP CC Manager / Team Leader
  • Able to drive the Teams forward, and ensure deliverables are met
  • Strong experience as project lead in big transformation projects
  • Strong people management skills, and able to communicate with and bridge the gap between the IT and Business
  • A fire-fighter / troubleshooter - able to sweep clean existing issues with the SAP implementation
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Business processes and IT Service management concepts, practices, and procedures. Know How in Cloud, streaming (Kafka) and other enterprise tools are highly appreciated
  • Experience in systems integration, Microservices, and project management with an ability to understand the implications of technology solutions and the latest innovations
  • Hands on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Continuous Deployment, AWS, Databricks, git
  • Experience with ML related libraries (e.g. numpy, pandas, scikit-learn) and frameworks (e.g. TensorFlow, Spark)
  • Worked in one or more of the following programming languages: Java, Scala and Python
  • A good understanding of machine learning topics and a strong mathematical background
  • Fluent German and English (nice-to-have)
