As our supply chain scales globally, the high quality, efficiency and value of our products is essential to the success of our business. We continue to expand our manufacturing base across Tier I and II partners, with an increased complexity across the number of products we manage and their manufacturing. 

We are looking for an experienced professional to lead our first sourcing and development office in Asia, and the first line of defense and communication between HQ and our partners.

The person will scout, set up and hire for our Vietnam office, with a focus on supporting the HQ team with sourcing, product development, commercialization, factory operations, and quality. Reporting directly to the Global Allbirds Head of Operations, this person will also develop strategic sourcing plans, develop and maintain personal technical proficiency in textile and apparel categories, and work closely with HQ to meet Allbirds' product objectives while lowering the cost of merchandise without sacrificing quality. 

What does the job entail?
  • Scout, set up and hire for Allbirds' first sourcing office in Vietnam with the responsibility of Tier I & Tier II oversight and primary liaison between HQ and our manufacturers
  • Manage and expand factory and supplier operations, including:
    • Achieving high service levels at all our manufacturing partners (Tier I/II)
    • Proactively identifying and resolving production issues in collaboration with product development, commercialization and factory teams
    • Creating SOPs for production processes, and standardized across factories where possible
    • Managing execution of all material and finished goods testing, quality assurance and quality control
    • Managing execution of supplier audit and compliance programs
    • Establishing and monitoring operational performance through executive dashboards
    • Daily communications to HQ SC: Costing, Sourcing, Logistics, Warehouse, Capacity Planning
  • Collaborate with product development, sourcing, and planning, among others to ensure that our raw materials and physical goods are flowing through our supply chain effectively and efficiently
  • Manage factory transfers, coordinating suppliers, approving line managers/workforce, SOP oversight with Commercialization team
  • Lead factory infrastructure requirements: specification, purchase, installation, and validation of equipment and tooling.
  • Lead CFA (Certified Factory Auditor) and Auditor training/certification including 3rd party test facilities
  • Act as primary "Reconnaissance scout" research and recommend competitive, local to factory, Tier II suppliers
  • Research and implement innovative factory production technologies and processes.
  • Travel extensively to maintain a global network of manufacturers to carry out sourcing plan; evaluate implementation of sourcing strategies and make appropriate recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop key relationships with Allbirds' manufacturing partners and continuously search for other partners to expand our supplier base

What kind of person are we looking for?

You are a collaborative supply chain leader with enviable drive, the ability to develop meaningful relationships with partners, and a keen attention to detail. Candidates should have:
  • 15-20 years as Country Manager or related factory experience including residence in Asia, focusing on:
    • Footwear & Apparel product development (including lasts), commercialization, testing, and manufacturing
    • Factory Sourcing and cost negotiation
    • Familiarity with PLM documentation & communication
    • QA/QC compliance, inspection & standards management
  • Knowledge of product development timelines, prototyping needs including rapid prototyping facilities, sample molds and aid with Tier II sampling MOQ's
  • Ability to work cross functionally and cross culturally with HQ Supply Chain Operations, HQ Product Development, Commercialization and Tier I, Tier II suppliers
