INTRODUCTION

JOB PURPOSE

The core purpose of the Strategy Manager role is to develop and lead research and insights in support of Burberry's strategic business plan, enable its delivery and oversee implementation. This role will act as an internal strategy consultant to the business and work across all management functions to ensure timely and effective development and delivery of Burberry's strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead research and consolidate insights in support of Burberry's strategic planning based upon: market and competitor dynamics environment, including emerging opportunities, competitor and economic threats. Situational assessments may include:
    • Consumer insight and market data
    • Research benchmarks
    • Burberry performance analysis (including customer, operating and financial KPIs)
    • Scenario planning (such as organic, major acquisitions or disposals).
    • Strategic plan that reflects capital & resource allocation.
    • Risk management considerations.
  • Support development and execution of specific functional/regional strategies:
    • Specific plan assistance (e.g. brand extensions into new product channels)
    • Operating plans - coordinate the development of operational and functional operating plans that enable delivery of the strategy
    • Functional strategies, to facilitate the development of functional strategies as agreed by the Executive
  • Lead project management and implementation of major strategic projects
    • Cross-functional strategic projects
    • Bespoke analysis and presentations for the SVP of Strategy to be presented to the SLT/Exco
    • Strategy Comms - CEO letter, Board papers.


PERSONAL PROFILE

Required:
  • Master's degree (MBA preferred)
  • Strong commercial experience within top-tier strategy consulting firms or investment institutions.
  • Highly analytical and comfortable with industry and financial data
  • Able to work across multiple functions and regions, and with top stakeholders
  • Strong intellect and analytical skills, with top rating from a blue-chip strategic consultancy, investment bank or a business similar to Burberry
  • Cultural sensitivity and global outlook, including proven ability to work across markets
  • A track record of successful implementation of strategic initiatives across business units and/or functions
  • Influencing and Relationship Building
  • Experience in scanning the external environment to support strategy development
  • Demonstrable understanding of strategic analysis at both a corporate and business unit level
  • A self-starter who delivers own projects well and can also manage a team and work across more informal networks
  • Strong resilience with ability to stand their ground appropriately in the face of challenge.
