JOB PURPOSE

The scope of the health and safety advisor role will be responsible for implementing H&S programs to provide a safe and compliant workplace for both Burberry employees and the temporary workforce employed at the Vineland, NJ distribution center. The successful applicant will be a member of the global health and safety team, reporting to the local Health and Safety Manager (AMERICAS), with a dotted line to warehouse operations.
This position is also responsible for monitoring State regulations to ensure Burberry is actively involved in emerging issues and poised to address new and modified regulations. This position is part of a global H&S team at Burberry.
This position is also responsible for assisting with the on-going development and implementation of Burberry's health and safety strategy. The job holder will provide business aligned health and safety (H&S) support to the warehouse to the extent outlined within the responsibilities of this job description, in the pursuance of protecting our people, brand and customer experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be the subject matter advisor for all H&S inquiries, advice and support.
  • Participates in accident investigations, performs root cause analysis for all injuries and "near misses," train operations supervisors to conduct thorough investigations and root cause analysis. Record findings and recommendations within Burberry's incident management system.
  • Facilitates emergency response protocols for the warehouse.
  • Maintain knowledge of all applicable corporate, federal, state and local health and safety regulatory requirements. Stay abreast of developing regulatory requirements, particularly on a state and local level. Keep operations informed of new and developing regulations.
  • Partner with internal and external auditors/inspectors to ensure that support is provided to facilitate the close out of health and safety actions. This will include undertaking audits as well as reviewing draft audit reports for accuracy and relevance.
  • Maintain and update all location Health and Safety arrangements documents, emergency plans, risk assessments and safety related audit action plans, liaising with warehouse operations and other key stakeholders to meet action deadlines.
  • Undertake risk based health and safety inspections within the warehouse, which includes construction activities.
  • Coordinate and support warehouse H&S committee meetings with agenda and presentation preparations and ensure minutes have been issued and distributed.
  • Deliver accredited / non-accredited Health and Safety training including planning, scheduling and maintaining records.
  • Ensure all contractors and their respective activities are operating in compliance with Burberry safety standards and policies, this may involve occasional weekend and out of hours working.
  • Partner with the Global health and safety team on all H&S related matters.
  • Support the Health and Safety Manager (AMERICAS) & Global Health, Safety and Fire Manager as required in relation to construction or reorganization projects and provide advice and assistance to internal and external teams throughout the construction life cycle.
  • Partner with the Health and Safety Manager (AMERICAS) & the Health, Safety and Fire Manager to provide safety advice and support.
  • In partnership with the operations management team, reduce health and safety risk throughout the warehouse. This includes, but is not limited to: H&S coaching/training, support with daily activities.
  • Partner with the regional HR team on the global Wellbeing program and other occupational health issues. Complete/advise on person specific assessments (return to work, pregnancy, disability etc.) where necessary.
  • Build and manage relationships with external regulators and H&S support networks.
  • Project manage, implement or provide implementation support to any H&S initiatives, objectives or training/awareness programs.
  • Support the warehouse and the global health and safety team with the development and implementation of the following parts of the global safety management system:
  • Regional (where appropriate) and global H&S objectives, targets, policies, processes, procedures or standards.
  • Leading and lagging measurements on H&S performance, providing regional insight from data and measuring performance against regional industry indices and best practice. Provide internal and external reporting as required.
  • Internal and external gap analysis and targeted proactive monitoring in the pursuance of attaining and maintaining H&S legal compliance / best practice.
  • Follow up any health and safety and fire safety related maintenance work with general contractors.
  • Management and monitoring of sustainability (including energy monitoring)


PERSONAL PROFILE

• 2-3 years practical experience with health and safety compliance at a large global company with world class safety programs. Warehouse experience is a plus.
• chain, warehousing or similar environment
• Educated to degree level (preferable)
• A recognised health and safety qualification (ASP, CSP preferred)
• Membership to the American Society of Safety Professionals
• Understanding of health and safety legal frameworks in the United States and have the ability and resourcefulness to determine the practical application of these requirements in a warehousing environment
