As a Senior Applied Scientist, you will conduct and guide algorithmic-research driven software development. Every week we distribute millions of articles in our logistic network to optimize the assortment availability and delivery times for our customers. Our system targets unifying several item distribution use cases (e.g. replenishment, returns and inner-warehouse storage) being optimized by a common algorithm for a multivariate objective. Our research pipeline (e.g. simulator and production A/B-testing) enables fast incremental improvements which together with the scale of our decisions sets us up for direct customer impact with short lead times.

WHERE YOUR EXPERTISE IS NEEDED
  • Take the lead on research, design and implementation of algorithms to improve our algorithmic item distribution framework
  • Deliver end-to-end solutions and set the bar for the whole development cycle that includes research, prototyping, implementing production software, as well as testing and operating the highly available production system
  • Influence our research and development methodologies to foster a scalable and data-driven architecture
  • Think abstractly and discover correlations between problems, methodologies, and solutions

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • Master or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics or another quantitative field together with at least two or more years of industry experience in algorithm-related software development in Java, Kotlin, or similar
  • Proficiency in the state-of-the-art methods in software design, architecture and distributed system, e.g. microservices and RESTful APIs
  • Applied knowledge of advanced algorithmic techniques (e.g. from combinatorics, graph theory) and mathematical optimization methods (e.g. from operations research), together with corresponding applied research experience
  • Ability to work, collaborate and communicate in an agile and cross-functional team with engineers, product owners and other applied scientists
