Gemologist/Fine Jewelry & Watch Authentication Specialist

We are seeking a GIA certified Gemologist (GG) as a GEMOLOGIST/LUXURY JEWELRY & WATCH AUTHENTICATION SPECIALIST to join our jewelry and timepiece team at our headquarters in CARLSBAD, CA!

As a Gemologist - Luxury Jewelry Authentication Specialist you will be trained to evaluate & authenticate pre-owned luxury goods such as - Cartier, Tiffany, Van Cleef & Arpels, and David Yurman from clients not only in our showrooms but also on our online platform. Authenticators need to be knowledgeable in all of the brands we currently carry and also any future brands.

This is a key position for FASHIONPHILE, as our business is selling pre-owned designer handbags and fine jewelry and timepieces.  We are proud to deliver an immense selection of brands and styles, while continuing to grow our inventory and customer supplier base at an energetic pace.  This full-time position is eligible for benefits such as 100% paid medical insurance for the employee.

What You'll Do:

• Authenticate fine jewelry and timepieces, using your knowledge and detailed research methodology
• Perform initial examination in person, including the condition to make recommendations to the procurement team
• Perform quality assurance examination when items return from the bench jeweler and make appropriate documentation
• Assist in processing and examining the fine jewelry & timepiece returns
• Develop personal strategies for research methods, focusing on efficiency and accuracy to prioritize the work flow
• Conduct research and produce documentation for brand authentication guides
• Accurately identify synthetic/treated stones, natural colored stones and diamonds using GIA evaluations techniques

What is Required:

• GIA Graduate Gemologist required
• 3-5 years jewelry (gemology and timepieces) experience is preferred, but not required
• Extreme attention to detail
• Ability to work well both independently and in a collaborative environment
• Demonstrate willingness to be proactive and remain productive as workflow expands or is reduced
• Excellent organization skills
• Average to excellent vision (or corrected vision), without any color deficiencies (color blindness)
• Fluent in English, including reading and spelling
• Proficient typing skills (30 wpm+)
• Able to navigate the internet and use search functions
• Proficient in basic word processing skills
• Simple math including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
