We are a global business with an extensive network of both owned and franchised stores across EMEIA, Asia Pacific and Americas. We are digital pioneers, and innovative technology underpins every aspect of our business, from product design to distribution and marketing. We believe that modern luxury means being socially and environmentally responsible; this mindset is core to our business and key to our long-term success.

JOB PURPOSE

This role supports the Employee Relations Business Partner in planning and implementing key employee relations processes, policies, programmes and tools and ensuring that policies and procedures are applied consistently and fairly across the client group. The main focus of the role is to give commercially-focused, expert advice to your stakeholder group and provide clear interpretation of HR policy on a wide-range of subjects including discipline and grievance, performance and absence management. The role is also integral to building the confidence of leaders in employee relations to enable them to make informed decisions and achieve operational goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as one of the main points of contact for line managers, business leaders and HR teams across your stakeholder group to provide employee relations advice on ER matters requiring specialist expertise
  • Ensure that your cases are managed proactively through to conclusion in accordance with company policies and procedures and best practices. Manage stakeholder expectations and maintain good communication throughout the lifecycle of a case
  • Give balanced advice that manages risk but drives end results, which are both fair and in line with Burberry values as well as commercially appropriate
  • Escalate high-risk cases in a timely manner to the ER Business Partner, organising case conferences as required and make recommendations regarding the appropriate resolution
  • Coach line managers to build confidence and develop their expertise in managing employee relations issues
  • Assist managers with discussions relating to termination of employment and settlement agreements, as appropriate
  • Identify trends and patterns to assist the ER Business Partner with training and other pro-active interventions
  • Hold high standards of case confidentiality and ensure that confidentiality is a clearly understood element of all business relationships between the team and those that they advise
  • Support your ER Business Partner with developing policies, processes and guidance and keeping up to date on legislation changes and best practice
  • Proactively keep employment law knowledge up to date
  • Participate in ER projects and other ER-related duties as required

PERSONAL PROFILE

  • Good knowledge of employment law and its application
  • Good understanding and significant practical experience of complex employee relations procedures and processes
  • Demonstrable experience of working in an ER Advisor capacity managing complex employee relations cases
  • Experience of working in a diverse and challenging business with the ability to balance commercial and reputational risk whilst ensuring that we adhere to the organisation's values and 'do the right thing'
  • Customer-focussed and proactive
  • Able to operate in significant ambiguity and advise in 'grey areas' of employee relations
  • Able to influence and challenge in a professional manner
  • Strong coaching skills
  • Mediation skills and techniques
  • Must have up to date knowledge of employment law and be commercially astute, results-driven and adaptable
  • Able to manage conflicting demands, prioritise effectively and work on own initiative with minimal supervision
  • Excellent team player with the ability to build effective team relationships
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate with people from all levels of the organisation
  • Able to provide clear written and verbal advice to stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with a flexible, can-do attitude
