An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Accessories Design Developer to join the A-COLD-WALL* team in London.

A-COLD-WALL* is a luxury menswear brand that takes an ergonomic approach to design, combining social consciousness with material innovation in order to optimise human performance. We pride ourselves in being highly-regarded amongst the most progressive, avant-garde brands within the fashion and design industries despite only just turning five years old.

We are seeking a seasoned candidate with a solid track record of design and development experience. The ideal candidate will have experience across a wide range of soft accessories categories including leather and non leather bags and small goods, knitted and woven accessories and headwear.

The successful candidate will be expected to deliver the highest calibre of work, supporting with the design of the seasonal soft accessories collection and taking responsibility for developing all styles to SMS. This will require an exceptional skill set as well as the passion and drive to bring a diverse range of products to market on time and on budget. 

THE ROLE

  • To work closely with the accessories design consultant along with the RTW design team on seasonal concepts and apply these to the design of the full accessories collection, ensuring the correct balance of creativity and commerciality is met to drive growth
  • Take responsibility for the development of accessories collection from tech pack through to SMS.  Working with factory partners to prototype, build and commercialise products ensuring cost targets are met and margin expectation delivered.
  • Manage network of external freelance/consultants.
  • Travel to trade shows, factories and suppliers to investigate new material opportunities. Find ways to innovate in materials, process and highest level executions and become the materials & manufacturing expert for accessories
  • Reporting to the Head of Product

RESPONSIBILITIES

Including but not limited to:

  • Develop seasonal concepts based on accessories design consultants briefing, working closely with the RTW design team to define design direction, concept and colour
  • Research new trends and conduct market analysis
  • Support the accessories design consultant with the seasonal collection, taking responsibility for creating tech packs for all styles
  • Work closely with the Product Development and Production Managers to source and select materials, ensuring materials are sourced in accordance with target costs
  • Design and develop new hardware/trims as required
  • Creation of product tech packs
  • Create mock ups to support tech packs as required for shape, construction technique and design details
  • Ownership of the seasonal development critical path ensuring timely delivery of all assets
  • Responsible for all communications with factory partners from product launch to SMS delivery, supporting suppliers on all design and technical questions
  • Responsible for all stages of proto sampling with factory partners, including product reviews, design/tech pack updates and communication of changes to suppliers

THE CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and qualities:

  • A proven track record of 8+ years of design and development success across a complete range of soft accessories categories (i.e. leather and non leather bags and small goods, knitted and woven scarves, headwear, gloves)
  • Ability to see both creative and commercial requirements to ensure products drive towards solutions that balance
  • Experience generating project timelines, creating detailed factory tech packs, to ensure delivery, cost, innovation & quality targets are met
  • Ability to communicate with detail internally and with manufacturers to ensure expectations, requirements and timelines are clearly understood
  • Experience working with factories in Italy, Portugal and FE
  • A detailed understanding of soft goods including patterns, construction, fit & size grading, and relevant materials, including textiles, leather, as well as production processes
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, to handle multiple projects and exhibit a high degree of flexibility and willingness to adapt 
  • Experience traveling overseas and working with manufacturing partners
  • Strong organisational skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Proven ability to create strong factory and supplier relationships 
  • Experience of managing a permanent team or freelancer as plus
  • Comfortable working in PLM development system. Fully literate in Excel, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
