About the role

The Director of Finance and Operations will play a leading role within Strathberry. You will have a strong presence in leading and implementing change to set up the organisation for growth. Operating from our Head Office in Edinburgh, you will be part of the Executive Team and report directly to the CEO, acting as a key player in helping to shape the direction of the brand. This role is global in outlook and will be responsible for all reporting to the Board. 

In overseeing the Operations and Finance functions, you will be required to continuously monitor internal processes and continually investigate efficiency and cost-saving opportunities to support the expansion of the brand. You will evaluate and help drive strategic objectives, whilst providing financial information to feed directly into the long-term business strategy.

Key responsibilities

Operations

  • Leading and managing the operations team to deliver efficient and cost-effective international logistics
  • Delivering real-time automated recording of stock at all locations across the business
  • Continuing to explore optimal technological solutions in relation to all aspects of stock and logistics management for a rapidly-growing international brand
  • Ensuring highest level of customer service for D2C deliveries
  • Driving cost efficiencies whilst ensuring quality optimisation across all elements of production
  • Negotiating and managing contracts with suppliers
  • Overall reporting and review of internal and external business risks
  • Ensuring accurate reporting and payment of all relevant taxes and duties

Finance

  • Providing finance leadership, collaborating with the broader financial team and Directors to provide financial expertise to support business decisions
  • Identifying improvement opportunities and ensuring robust financial controls and efficient processes are maintained, whilst ensuring compliance with regulatory and auditing standards
  • Monitoring performance against company KPIs, seeking to drive profitability and manage cashflow.  
  • Reviewing annual budgeting and forecasts 
  • Setting realistic KPIs and goals for Department Heads
  • Overseeing financial audits of both UK and international subsidiaries 
  • Supporting the Finance Manager with the preparation of annual statutory accounts and compliance with international and GB VAT obligations
  • Ad hoc planning and analysis, as required to support the needs of Directors and other business functions

The Ideal Candidate

  • 5 – 8 years working in a Senior Management position with a minimum of 2-3 years’ experience working in a strategic operations role
  • Proven track record in previous financial management and reporting 
  • A clear, strategic thinker with experience of contributing to the development of an organisation as part of a Senior Management Team
  • Dynamic and forward thinking, with a strong track record in leading systems and process improvements (digital knowledge / experience advantageous)
  • Confident working at pace within and across dynamic and diverse teams
  • Strong financial modelling experience, as well as business and data analysis skills
  • Pro-active individual who is technically adept and can work autonomously and confidently using own initiative
  • Confident in dealing closely with senior executives of the business, able to challenge and question information and decisions
  • Excellent leadership skills, able to demonstrate authority in managing teams, whilst mentoring and supporting team members to optimise their potential and work effectively 
  • Ability to act as an external ambassador on behalf of the company  
  • Networked with the ability to leverage strategic relationships which help accelerate business reach and growth
  • Online experience in D2C luxury fashion/lifestyle retail is highly desirable
  • A fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) would be of interest
