INTRODUCTION

Founded in 1856 by Thomas Burberry, Burberry is a global luxury brand with a distinctly British attitude. We are a global business with an extensive network of both owned and franchised stores across EMEIA, Asia Pacific and Americas. We are digital pioneers, and innovative technology underpins every aspect of our business, from product design to distribution and marketing. We believe that modern luxury means being socially and environmentally responsible; this mindset is core to our business and key to our long-term success.

JOB PURPOSE

Burberry is making a major investment in expanding our data and analytics capability. Over the last few years, we've created a global omni-channel single-customer view, built an outstanding analytics platform and developed a small but highly effective digital analytics and data science team. We've built a great capability in the digital part of our business and we're now ready to build on these foundations to make a quantum leap forward in the sophistication and breadth of data-inspired decision-making across the whole of Burberry. The fashion industry hasn't historically been at the forefront of data and analytics innovation but, at Burberry, we aim to change this...

You'll be joining a rapidly growing team with a hugely ambitious, well-funded and exciting roadmap in a role with great scope to shape our data strategy. You'll join us at the start of the next stage on our journey, so you'll have the opportunity to influence our plans as well as deliver them. You'll be implementing and using the most modern tools in the market with limited/no legacy technology and tools holding you back. You'll have a rare opportunity to apply analytics and data science in a creatively-driven business - combining art and science to create beautiful things. You'll be joining a team that is already using advanced techniques like deep learning, machine vision and AI to drive real value for our business. You'll be working for an organisation that is optimistic, positive, tolerant and respectful but also audacious, ambitious and driven. You'll be working with and supported by an amazing Data Technology function that is a true partner in delivering our strategy. You'll be part of a team that is passionate about, and invests heavily in, training and development. And finally, you'll be working on a global scale but in a company small enough that everyone can have their voice heard and make a difference.

Does that sound exciting? If so, we're recruiting a large number of roles and this is one of them ...

We are recruiting a Data Product Developer to join our expanding team.

This role would ideally suit a candidate with extensive experience working with Looker, Alteryx or Sisense. It is a technically demanding role which requires good SQL or Python skills along with heavy experience developing with Looker, Alteryx or Sisense. Only candidates who meet this criterion should apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Platform Specialism: You will already be an expert in Looker, Alteryx or Sisense and specifically in developing and growing a comprehensive deployment on these platforms. This includes data product development, data modelling and optimisation;
  • Technical Skills: You will be comfortable using SQL and/or Python and have experience ideally in DataBricks, Cloudera or BigQuery. Additional experience in other data platforms would be beneficial;
  • Data Modelling: You will work with business and analytics teams to review requirements and ensure the most effective delivery to enable, through self-service capabilities, teams to function more independently;
  • Structure and Definitions: You will define the model structure in Looker and standardize data definitions across the business, ultimately building a single source of truth for data and insights across internal teams;
  • Adoption: You will be expected to ensure business teams and users are onboarded to the work you produce. You will help foster relationships and collaboration throughout our internal teams by facilitating seamless data-sharing, pro-active model upkeep and responsive troubleshooting;
  • Upskilling: You will be expected to ensure robust handover as necessary within the team to ensure ongoing stability and success once reaching the appropriate stage. You will train analysts on LookML applications for faster processing, while monitoring dashboard loads and query performance;
  • Self-Development: You'll be responsible for staying up to date with industry trends and developments across e-commerce, marketing & digital as well as ongoing development of your already strong technical skills.

PERSONAL PROFILE

  • Influencing Skills: You'll have the ability to influence, engage with, and respond to stakeholders with credibility and impact;
  • Creativity: You'll be an ideas person - you will be a creative thinker, have a hunger for novelty and newness with a keen interest in emerging technologies and analytical techniques - alongside the ability and grit required to turn good ideas into reality;
  • Collaboration Skills: You're able to work collaboratively with others - understanding, respecting and leveraging different perspectives, skills and objectives to make the whole greater than the sum of its parts;
  • Task Management: You'll be able to prioritise and communicate to stakeholders what you're delivering and when, reliably and independently;
  • Self-Motivation: You will be driven to learn about and understand the business and, within your area of influence, the impact your work could have to its continued success;
  • Value Focus: You're relentlessly focussed on value delivery and, taking an evidence-led approach, will always focus on the commercial value that your work can deliver;
  • Communication: You'll invest in making sure that the work you do can be leveraged by as wide a set of stakeholders as possible and will proactively create and seek opportunities to share your work as widely as possible;
  • Curiosity & Empathy: You love to learn and this curiosity will lead you to a deep understanding of and empathy for your stakeholders and their business objectives, needs and constraints.

Required experience and education:
  • You have a bachelor's degree or above in a mathematical, statistical, scientific or engineering discipline;
  • You have strong technical skills. In particular, you must have good hands-on programming experience in SQL or Python;
  • You have thorough knowledge of Looker (LookML), Alteryx or Sisense, including areas such as modelling, performance tuning, liquid, testing, advanced techniques and resource monitoring.
  • You have hands-on experience in the Adobe or Google Analytics suites would be highly valued, as would experience in using Databricks, Dataiku, BigQuery, Firebase and ContentSquare;
  • You have experience mapping source data, creating data pipelines, and defining business rules and reporting requirements to support business units with the onboarding of new data;
  • You have experience developing tools for visualisation, storytelling and reporting while implementing robust methodologies to ensure high data quality, including technical documentation;
  • You are able to gather and understand requirements from stakeholders and translate them into deliverables;
  • You are skilled at identifying opportunities to optimise data processing, automation and interpretation.
