Job Details

Shopify's Early Talent teams develop and deliver leading edge work integrated learning programming aimed at accelerating the long-term career development of an intentionally diverse community of junior talent committed to the mission of making commerce better for everyone. We're seeking an experienced, entrepreneurial Senior Program Manager to join us in the work of building best-in-class learning experiences for our company's future leaders.

We're looking for someone to hit the ground running by taking on the revamp of our Apprentice Product Manager (APM) program. With this project, you'll work to develop a program that creates meaningful and effective opportunities for participants to build on their existing PM skills and rapidly accelerate their time to impact at Shopify. You'll assess the health of the current program, interface with senior leadership and current participants to define needs, and ideate a completely new solution. Then, you'll roll up your sleeves and launch the new program, managing it through its first few cohorts to ensure success. Your primary focus will be to develop systems for identifying and engaging a diverse mix of APMs, and through cross-team collaboration within our organization, gathering context and building plans that will maximize personal development, program utility, and ultimately hold a high bar for the APMs that graduate the program. Once this initial program is successfully launched, you'll have the opportunity to build out a roadmap for future program development aimed at supporting Early Talent needs within Engineering, Data Science, and UX Design.

Because this role focuses on a high profile and high impact program, we're looking for a seasoned Program Manager with experience building similar programs in a corporate setting. And because you'll be called on to drive all aspects of the program's development and delivery, we're looking for a self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit who's excited by seeing an idea through to successful execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • You'll be responsible for thoroughly understanding the Early Talent problem space for Product Managers, and partnering with company-wide stakeholders to identify needs and potential roadblocks.
  • Own and be accountable for implementing an impactful Associate Product Manager program for Shopify.
  • Create plans, frameworks and communications that result in a successful program design and execution.
  • Define measurable deliverables that help you and the team assess progress and pivot when necessary.
  • Develop and maintain high standards for the program and its participants.
  • Immerse yourself in self-directed learning to obtain a broader understanding of your goals and can clearly articulate how that facilitates the broader company mission.
  • Work cross-functionally with Product Management senior leadership, Talent team members, and other key stakeholders to build and deliver the best Early Talent programs possible.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience managing team-building, learning and development and/or Early Talent programs for technology-based companies.
  • Demonstrated ability to build concise programs with clear expectations and tripwires with key stakeholder input.
  • Your work history includes offering creative solutions in developing project scope, timelines and budgeting.
  • You have demonstrated strong systems thinking in your past roles.
  • Exhibits an ability to navigate the big picture while identifying key stack-ranked deliverables.
  • You are able to achieve alignment and set expectations with internal hiring managers.
  • You are one of the first to celebrate team wins.
  • You've had success making great decisions when faced with tough challenges.
