Job Details

As a Competitive Intelligence Manager on the Market Insights Team, you'll be a part of a group of market researchers and analysts supporting global and regional teams across Marketing and Sales. The insights generated by the Competitive Intelligence Manager will help increase sales and drive better business decisions by building foundational competitive knowledge and executing bespoke research attached to organizational priorities.

Shopify is now permanently remote and working towards a future that is digital by default. Learn more about what this can mean for you.
  • Build, manage, and grow a high value Competitive Intelligence function. Establish a renewed competitive culture and increase program engagement across the organization.
  • Develop and update battlecards to ensure Shopify has a competitive advantage in the sales cycle. Help support strategic opportunities and partner closely with sales leaders.
  • Operate the competitive win/loss program and distill findings into strategic perspectives.
  • Communicate key findings, develop competitive briefings, and deliver information to stakeholders. Drive consistency of how we perceive competitors.
  • Grow the program by working across product lines (Retail, Money, etc.) and regions to expand the breadth and depth of the Competitive Intelligence function.
  • Be a competitive supersleuth. Gather intelligence by monitoring news, conducting interviews, tearing down products, reviewing documents, attending seminars, etc.
  • Work with Market Insights Managers to scope, execute and deliver ad-hoc market research projects aligned with Commercial Revenue priorities.
  • Experiment. Implement new tools & methods. Onboard and manage agency relationships.

Qualifications

  • Competitive Intelligence. You have an understanding of competitive intelligence best practices and have experience in developing tactical sales strategies (objection handling, reframes, etc.) and strategic perspectives (strengths, weaknesses, positioning, etc.) from information gathered.
  • Strategic Perspective. You have a strong grasp of how competitive and market forces impact decision making for businesses in real life.
  • Drive & Vision. You have the desire to build and shape a function from the ground up and have a perspective of how Competitive Intelligence programs should run.
  • Thrive in Ambiguity. You have the ability to chart your own path and don't require a tested playbook to guide decision making and tactics. You are open to failure and trying things that you may not be good at, or have done before.
  • Strong Communicator. You have the ability to tell compelling, persuasive, data-driven stories and are effective in partnering closely with colleagues from multiple disciplines. You are collaborative and have experience working cross-functionally to drive results.
  • Project Management. You have experience and are skilled at managing multiple deliverables, timelines, and resources all at the same.
