Data is the lifeblood of any organisation and especially so within Burberry. We are looking for a Data Architect to help us define and execute against, a vision of consistent master data access for applications and analytics in an architecture oriented around APIs and not around MDM systems.

The role is a mix of strong application system awareness combined with a strong background in conceptual, logical and canonical modelling.

This role will have the responsibility for managing the CRUD application landscape from an architectural perspective and delivering single views of master data to transform Burberry data landscape into a hub and spoke architecture.

The Data Architect will also be a key stakeholder in a number of key programme's and will work closely with and within projects to ensure our data assets are managed and evolving.

The role can be based from either of our offices in Leeds or London Head offices.

The purpose of the role is to ensure that the data architecture within Burberry:
• Supports the organisation, enabling the use of data to meet business outcomes, in an adaptive way.
• Supports decision making, delivering a future-state view unconstrained by proprietary solutions or technologies and;
• Protects our Brand and organisation through the proper classification of our data assets, taking account of relevant privacy and regulatory requirements.

The role is part of the IT Data and Analytics team and will require collaboration with numerous roles aligned to data and analytics such as data scientists, domain architecture and information management.
The scope of the role covers our global IT estate. The successful candidate will need to cover all aspects of data architecture providing guidance through strategy, governance, modelling and operational management, taking into account both current and future requirements.


  • Working with business and application/solution teams to implement data strategies and build data flows.
  • Creating and managing conceptual ,logical and canonical data models.
  • Defining data standards across the organisation , communicating business benefit and championing governance.
  • Producing, evolving and refining the enterprise master data architecture for Burberry.
  • Working proactively to address project requirements and articulate issues/challenges to reduce project delivery risks.
  • Raise and resolve any architectural issues/risks where tactical solutions are proposed.
  • Providing guidance for the implementation of data-centric services, solutions and physical models.
  • Enabling IT and the business to reduce TCO by rationalising data sources , exploiting the re-use of any components, patterns or techniques and documenting these for re-use by delivery projects,


  • Significant IT experience with multiple applications and data solutions.
  • In-depth hands-on experience of working with master data, integrations and data modelling.
  • Good working knowledge of retail/supply chain end-to-end processes and ability to demonstrate successful working relationships with business management colleagues.
  • A grasp of complex technical processes/challenges and using entrepreneurial thinking to create solutions that are pragmatic.
  • This is a role that will require an individual to be able to communicate strongly with both senior business leaders and IT Leadership.
  • Previous experience working within an Enterprise Architecture/Data modelling function is preferred.
  • Experience of data modelling tools / Enterprise Data applications preferred.
