The Public Relations Specialist is a core member of the Communications team, reporting directly to the Head of Communications. They're a strong driver of impactful media coverage, concepting and executing proactive campaigns alongside news initiatives to maintain consistent visibility for The RealReal. They constantly identify new relevant writers/outlets and forge relationships that generate both local and national coverage. The PR Specialist plays a key role in supporting The RealReal's retail expansion, from delivering high-impact launches to getting creative to maintain an ongoing local presence through earned media. They're an effective verbal and written communicator, tailoring clear, concise and compelling communication to audiences as varied as lifestyle media, brand partners and internal stakeholders. This role requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, energized by new opportunities and able to effectively juggle multiple projects. The PR Specialist will work closely with the rest of the Communications team to support The RealReal's continued innovation and next phase of growth.

  • Build and maintain media relationships, with an emphasis on consumer and local
  • Secure news-based and proactive media coverage
  • Support retail locations by forging strong connections with local media that deliver ongoing coverage
  • Manage press alias and serve as a point person for inbound media opportunities
  • Collaborate with communications team to develop campaigns and tactics
  • Create compelling written content including pitches, press releases and FAQs
  • Provide support for events, activations and shoots
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships with key internal partners
  • Own foundational PR program elements such as research and reporting
  • Maintain communications drive, ensuring all content and assets for media are up to date

What You Bring To The Role
  • 3 to 4 years of public relations experience, PR agency experience preferred
  • Tenacious media relations pro with proven ability to build relationships and secure coverage with local, broadcast and consumer media
  • Knows what it takes to support brick-and-mortar success, including openings and ongoing support
  • Excels at written communication, easily able to adapt writing style to different internal and external audiences
  • Strong grasp of journalistic writing and what's newsworthy
  • Able to take direction and run with execution autonomously
