Job Details

We think you'll do this by;
  • applying econometric or statistical knowledge to improve our understanding of our partner ecosystem and how it could best serve the needs of our merchants.
  • analyze historical data to identify trends and support decision making
  • create a set of economic models of merchant/partner behavior that accounts for the realities of our ecosystem, and use that model to inform the way we design our marketplaces, individual products we build, and the programs and policies that we put in place to help our partners serve our merchants.
  • proactively identify anomalies in Shopify's ecosystem, whether anecdotal or identified automatically, deep dive to explain why they happen, and identify fixes.
  • partner with product and data science in order to apply optimization algorithms, and behavioral models
  • work very closely with quantitative researchers, data scientists, design researchers and designers to draw on diverse data sets and tools to improve our ecosystem and marketplaces.
  • provide critical insights to decisions around pricing, bundling, promotion, discounting, multiple marketplace interactions, and competition.

And if that wasn't enough, you'll also;
  • look outside of Shopify to identify economic phenomena and structures and use them to help inform our ecosystem strategy and products.
  • engage with the academic community and policy makers in order to develop a POV for the company that best serves the needs of merchants in the e-commerce space globally.

Qualifications

Here's what we'd like to see from you;
  • An advanced degree in economics/statistics/or related field
  • 2-3 experience in industry working on complex open ended problems and developing practical solutions for product teams/business.
  • Experience working with open-ended problems whose solutions require both good theory and rigorous confirmation in the data.
