Job Details

At Shopify we're obsessed with helping our merchants and partners grow their businesses. We know the best way to help them succeed is to build an environment of belonging, where our employees feel, engaged and connected to our mission to make commerce better for everyone. One of the ways our team helps build this environment is through research and insights.

Shopify's Talent Research and Insights (TRI) team provides insights to the right people, at the right time, to help them make great decisions quickly. By conducting primary qualitative research studies, as well as leveraging data that exists in other parts of the organization, our team surfaces key insights that help us understand what employees need from us today, and anticipate what they'll need from us in the future.

We're at an exciting stage, and are looking to add our very first Operations Specialist to the team. This person will be responsible for organizing the wealth of employee research and data that we have available, and helping us operationalize our insights across the company. If you're familiar with research and insights, and passionate about amplifying the impact they can have through an organization, we'd love to hear from you!

You'll be working on:
  • Cataloguing our external and internal insights to map out what research and insights we have, and when and how our team is tapping into them
  • Owning and evolving how our team collects and stores insights, making them easy to access and understand
  • Identifying areas of untapped opportunity to capture new internal or external insights about our employees. As needed, building business cases or strengthening partnerships with the owners of those insights (outside of our research team) to solidify collaboration opportunities.
  • Helping to scale the impact of our team's reporting and insights by identifying which teams at Shopify would benefit from having access to them, as well as tracking our engagement and impact to inform recommendations on how we can improve
  • Being an expert on existing insights in order to direct our team towards the most relevant information available and leveraging those insights to amplify their reports, help answer questions from Talent, and partner with our team and People Analytics on basic reporting
  • Collaborating with our Employee Experience Researchers to surface trends and patterns in our research and insights
  • Partnering with other knowledge management specialists at Shopify to understand how to elevate our existing processes

Qualifications

  • Familiar working with qualitative research and quantitative data
  • Hands-on experience uncovering problems, and then designing, implementing, and iterating on processes or systems
  • You enjoy executing complex projects and have a track record for taking them from conception to launch
  • Extremely organized but nimble - You're passionate about creating the right kind of structure in an ambiguous environment
  • Strong relational skills, with the ability to build high-trust and influential relationships with employees and leaders at all levels
  • Excellent communication skills - You're great at simplifying complex ideas into concise messages or beautiful presentations
  • You're user-obsessed and seek to deeply understand users and their problems in order to build the best solutions for them
  • Proactive, curious, and sees opportunities where others see challenges; we're a rapid growth company that changes quickly
  • Passion and curiosity for amplifying the impact research and insights can lend towards building a positive employee experience

Bonus experience:
  • You've been in a librarian/information scientist/knowledge architect, program/product manager, or business analyst role
  • You are well-versed and passionate about employee experience and workplace culture
  • You have experience managing large repositories of information
  • You have a track record for building trust with internal stakeholders remotely
  • You have a continuous improvement mindset and are always looking for ways to track and iterate on a program or product after launch
  • You have experience creating reports summarizing research and insights

Here's how to apply:

Does creating structure out of chaos excite you? Walk us through an example of when you implemented something new. Create 1 - 2 slides to explain the problem(s) you identified, and how you went about solving them. Save the slides as a PDF, and make sure to submit this with your application!

We know that applying to a new role takes a lot of work and we truly value your time. Lisa is looking forward to reading your application. Make sure to tell us why you think this is the right role for you!
