As we scale at Shopify, we continue to evolve the ways we work in Talent. Our Operational Excellence team partners with Talent teams to help them design and build simple and efficient ways of working, while delivering an exceptional employee experience.

We're looking for a SeniorOperational Excellence Specialist. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with teams across Talent to create real transformation for our Talent services as you help teams design new ways of working that create seamless employee experiences.

In this role you'll be:
  • Helping teams solve problems in their areas, through various methods (Lean, Service Design, Design Thinking, Agile, etc.)
  • Partnering closely with other teams in Talent to ensure the right stakeholders are at the table (think Talent Insights, Talent Technology, etc.)
  • Helping develop the ‘Operational Excellence' toolkit of resources and templates to stay up to speed on the latest in the world of process improvement
  • Developing strong relationships with stakeholders and teams within the Talent team
  • Identifying areas that might need our support and helping prioritize the team's roadmap of projects
  • Help create a healthy culture of process, technology, and knowledge management in Talent


  • You have a background in Lean, Six Sigma, Service Design, Design Thinking, Agile, etc. and have proven experience solving large, cross functional projects using any of these approaches
  • You act as a partner in the problem solving process and are able to collaborate with the team and stakeholders to drive the project forward
  • You have a good understanding of both project management and knowledge management practices and have leveraged these practices in successful implementations
  • You're able to easily translate traditional problem solving concepts when coming into our unique organizational culture and can adapt your language and approach as required to gain trust and credibility
  • You are the opposite of rigid - you're able to quickly pivot your approach, change your priority, and adjust solutions as needed
  • You have excellent relationship building and communication skills - you're able to clearly and concisely communicate your point to various audiences and you can adjust your approach when required
