About the role

The Senior Director, Store Experience is accountable for translating the brand positioning, seasonal creative concept and product vision in the store to create a consumer journey that engages, drives conversion and improves long term loyalty. This is a key role on the marketing leadership team, reporting directly to the CMO, and collaborates with cross functional partners in design, merchandising and the stores field teams. The role requires the ability to lead a team and influence across a highly matrixed organization to provide creative direction for Visual Merchandising, Windows, In Store Communications and contribute to a shared vision for future store concepts.

The position is a strategic and creative role that requires a deep understanding of the customer, competition, trends, business goals, product knowledge and planning across multiple marketing channels. The role requires a high degree of strategic and operational agility matched with ability to lead across functions.

What you'll do


  • Lead the in-season creative development to amplify brand and product messages in the store experience including visual merchandising, styling, retail marketing and messaging


  • Delivers seasonal strategic briefs for the store experience that are rooted in customer insight, market trends, brand positioning and product messages with clearly defined objectives and measurable goals.


  • Creates seasonal guidelines and direction to inform and empower the field visual teams to execute and ensure product messages are clear and compelling.


  • Leadership and synthesis of competitive tracking and consumer insights for consumer shopping behaviors to ensure strong external context and consumer focus to inform planning.


  • Focus on North America, and identify and communicate ideas and opportunities to support store objectives but also drive an omni channel experience that reflects consumer shopping behaviors



Who you are


  • An energetic and creative leader who can inspire creative teams to create with audacity while building brand power with consistency


  • Connected to trends in retail, apparel and pop culture and able to bring that to life in a 3D experience in a GAP relevant way


  • Strong business acumen, analytic skills and understanding of financial and retail business diagnostics that drive store productivity


  • Experience in the integration of marketing messages across store and online channels, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams to translate and operationalize a creative vision


  • A passion for the GAP brand and a demonstrated understanding of the GAP brand vision/positioning and style aesthetic.


  • Knowledgeable about multiple marketing disciplines to effectively position the store in the marketing mix to build an emotional connection to the brand.


  • Financial proficiency in retail metrics and experience developing and managing budgets


  • Experience in creating and delivering differentiated retail experiences in apparel or related categories. 10+ years of brand management, consumer or retail marketing experience.
