About the role

The Manager of Technical Design will oversee multiple Women's product categories from design concept and first prototype to a final. You are responsible for leading fit sessions with designers and cross-functional team by ensuring the technical, functional and physical fit are appropriately executed to achieve the BR design aesthetic. Technical Design managers will lead a team of technical designers and mentor through their development.

What you'll do


  • Comprehensive understanding of physical fit; evaluation of body size, shape and the relationship of clothing on the target body.


  • Manage a team of Tech Designers in multiple categories


  • Recommend fabric silhouette compatibility that ensures execution of design intent.


  • Collaborate with business partners to gain clear direction and consensus of fit intent.


  • Support research and documentation of fit, sizing and construction at the style/category level for competitive deep-dive fittings.


  • Lead fit sessions on model or mannequin to ensure size and fit consistency within product categories.


  • Effectively communicate design's fit intent to vendors for bulk production while maintaining corporate standards.


  • Identify potential production, quality and costing issues and make recommendations to ensure brand integrity.


  • Evaluate garment to ensure global compliance of spec and construction.


  • Strive for continual improvement that drives product and process enhancements.


  • Identify and proactively engage supervisor when issues arise.


  • Track and manage workflow and workload for team's product and ensure product areas are maintained with cross-functional team; gather information and update all reports necessary for meeting.


  • Participate in departmental and cross-functional meetings as appropriate.


  • Foster an open communication and team environment with all business partners.


  • May include international travel



Who you are


  • AA or Certification in Apparel Manufacturing, Design, Patternmaking or equivalent.


  • 8-10 years' experience in the Apparel Industry including patternmaking and construction experience with full knowledge of total production timeline.


  • Experience managing a team


  • Expertise in fit, patterning making and construction.


  • Working knowledge of grading and manufacturing methods.


  • Ability to proactively troubleshoot and problem solve.


  • Strong organizational skills with ability to multi task.


  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to effectively influence.


  • Strong computer skills - PLM, Illustrator, Photoshop, Gerber, Optitex, Microsoft Office Suite


  • 3D style creation a plus
