The Technical Lead - Systems and Strategy will provide technical leadership on tactical, operational and intersectional initiatives and will help influence the growth trajectory of Shopify's Diversity and Belonging team. They will be responsible for leading cross-functional program management and managing company-wide formal consultations. The Technical Lead will engage and support the Senior Lead of Diversity and Belonging, partnering with the business to build on and create new and meaningful inclusion practices that leverage diversity in our everyday decision-making.

Responsibilities include:
  • Bring the Global Diversity and Belonging Strategy to life through our annual action plans and periodic reports with leadership teams around the world and across the business.
  • Identify, action and support intersections between the portfolios and bodies of work of the Diversity and Belonging team and the Social Impact team.
  • Lead the development and management of a tech-industry roundtable of diversity and belonging professionals.
  • Work with the People Analytics / Talent Research and Insights teams to develop and update the Workday Diversity Survey and prepare the annual diversity report to be leveraged for internal and external audiences.
  • Work with Talent Acquisition (TA) to ensure that the Candidate Diversity Survey is updated and the results are regularly analyzed to support TA and the Employer Brand teams.
  • Work with our Market Research team to gain insight into Shopify's merchant demographics and how they compare to our employee and candidate demographics.
  • Set and continually manage project and program expectations while delegating and managing deliverables with team members and stakeholders across the team.
  • Monitor the work of the Diversity and Belonging team, ensuring that projects are in alignment with business objectives, on-time and within budget.
  • Develop and implement a communications strategy for the Diversity and Belonging team, with specific focus on designing impactful, inclusive storytelling moments through newsletters, panel discussions and existing communications channels.
  • Lead all communications, messaging, and internal and external brand alignment on diversity and belonging.
  • Support in creating the strategy, tooling, and delivery of sharing diversity data and building diversity and belonging plans across lines and disciplines.
  • Use data to inform the recommendations around and direction related to the Diversity and Belonging strategy.
  • Engaging with and supporting Shopify employees in matters related to diversity and belonging.


Qualifications

You'll need to have:
  • Knowledge and desire to increase understanding of global diversity and belonging.
  • Experience translating overarching strategy into tangible implementation plans.
  • A track record of creativity and innovation.
  • Excellent communications skills, project management skills, and coordination skills.
  • Experience getting buy-in from and engaging with folks across diverse perspectives.
  • Experience teaching others about diversity and belonging topics.
  • Strong cross-functional/collaboration skills, relationship building skills and ability to achieve results without direct reporting relationships.
  • Ability to drive to big picture goals and milestones while valuing and maintaining a strong attention to detail.

It'd be great if you have:
  • Connections to diverse communities and other tech companies outside of Shopify.
  • Experience creating industry-wide programs and convening industry-wide roundtables.
  • Experience, qualifications and/or training in representing underrepresented communities in the context of a global brand.
  • Experience working in the tech space or another high-paced industry - it's important to understand our platform and the products we deliver.
