JOB SUMMARY

The Sr. Design Director, Handbags, oversees all design activities for one third of the Mainline Handbags sku's and is responsible for creative vision, design process, product elevation, and collaboration across multiple teams in the US and overseas. This candidate must develop concepts that are fashion driven and reflective of the creative vision and Tory Burch aesthetic. The candidate must be organized & detail oriented, proactive and adaptable to shifting priorities. The Sr. Design Director will be a part of a dynamic, creative environment where they will collaborate with talented designers and cross-functional partners in the business.

JOB DESCRIPTION

RESPONSIBILITIES

Vision
  • Serve as the Design lead for one third of the mainline Handbags Design sku's
  • Identify emerging trends; recommend those that are appropriate for Tory Burch through seasonal research and travel for competitive shopping and exploration of ideas with the company's overseas manufacturing network
  • Interpret trends in a brand-appropriate execution.
  • Oversee seasonal conceptualization and creation of design concepts for specific handbag groups within Tory Burch Mainline collection
  • Continue to elevate, refine and expand the assortments, while simultaneously maintaining consistent Tory Burch aesthetic
  • Responsible for delivering product that meets both sales volume and gross margin goals.


Partnership
  • Partner with Handbag merchants and designers to ensure alignment of product across categories
  • Continue to drive product elevation across the collection
  • Develop strong relationships with Merchandising, Sourcing and Product Development to ensure that business needs are understood and addressed in advance of the seasonal design process and that calendar handoffs are accomplished on time.
  • Ensure handbag lines for all sales channels and geographies are developed according to the development calendar and the parameters of the brand platform as well as the merchandising category needs and attributes.
  • Ensure cross product alignment via actively communicating and collaborating with all other design teams


The Calendar

  • Key partner to the Calendar Operations team to execute Design deliverables throughout the product lifecycle calendar and ensure that the process stays on time and milestone deadlines are met.
  • Lead and attend key meetings with Merchants, Product Development, Planning, and Sourcing and travel as outlined in the development process calendar.

EDUCATION & PRIOR EXPERIENCE NEEDED
  • Bachelor's Degree in Design or related field
  • Minimum 13 years of experience designing handbags within a luxury retailer
  • Ability to provide portfolio of past work is required
  • Ability to hand sketch both technical drawings and freeform renderings
  • Experience developing product directly with factories; understanding of development from concept through engineering
  • Understanding of materials, hardware, leather, and handbag construction required
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Global viewpoint, cultural sensitivity, and adaptability a must.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to form partnerships to collaborate, influence and drive change.
  • Ability to travel internationally
