About the team

As part of the Youth, Accessories, UW/SW and Home Team, you will be responsible for to create ready-to-wear concepts each season that are reflective of the creative vision, GANT aesthetic and commercial needs. The Design Manager will lead the team to design and develop the collection to meet all critical milestones necessary for the seasonal launch. The Design Manager will partner in close collaboration with their respective Product Manager counterpart to secure alignment regarding commercial and innovative needs to secure Business targets. In addition, the Design Manager will partner with colleagues from Merchandising, Graphics and the Strategic Innovation Development team. 

As a leader, the Design Manager will be accountable to create a dynamic, creative environment where talented designers succeed. Responsible for leading and coaching the Designers to create a compelling seasonal collection that links cohesively across all categories (Shirts, Knitwear, Jersey, etc) and Divisions.

This function requires someone who has a strong fashion sense and the ability to interpret trends, translate ideas from concept to completion – to ensure PREPPY AMERICAN SPORTSWEAR is translated into design. As a strong leader and influencer, the Design Manager must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with a diverse group at all levels. 

The team consists of Product Manager, Designers, Junior Designer, Product Developer and Junior Product Developer where you report to Global Product Director. Together we work towards the vision of creating products that with the customer in mind and together grow our share of business within GANT and on the markets.

Responsibilities 

  • Partner with the Product Manager and Global Merchandising team to deliver a compelling assortment that addresses both create and business goals (ie: Segmentation, Commercial stories
  • Collaborate with design partners in other divisions, including Womens, Teens, and external Licensees, to drive consistent storytelling and creative vision across the brand
  • Lead research and develop inspiration boards based on the Brand & Creative Brief, that conveys the seasonal vision and amplify storytelling
  • Continuously bring new ideas and innovative concepts to enhance the collection
  • Partner with team to refine seasonal concept, materials, hardware, and color palette for respective assortment; partner with other Design Managers to ensure alignment/ continuity
  • Partner with Print Designers on design direction for prints
  • Partner cross-functionally with Technical team (Pattern Makers & Technicians), Materials, and Product Development on regular basis to ensure successful execution of design intent
  • Create sketches, product prototypes and finished samples together with the design and workroom team. Work in PLM
  • Responsible for upholding design integrity, high quality execution, and timeliness throughout the entire development process from concept through engineering and commercialisation
  • Responsible to lead the team to meet all timeline milestones and deadlines; monitor the work of the team to ensure all deliverables are completed accurately
  • Ensure all prototypes are available for product presentation and finalisation
  • Lead, mentor and develop team member; Inspire team by creating a work environment that fosters creativity and innovation

Your skills

  • Minimum 8+ years related experience in fashion/ design/ development with experience of working on runway/capsule collections
  • Understanding and experience of Preppy American Sportswear aesthetic with a strong commercial mentality
  • Solution-oriented; able to see the "big picture" and understand interdependencies
  • Strong Photoshop skills for image adjustment as well as creating digital presentation boards
  • Strong discipline to detail and ability to prioritise and meet deadlines; proven project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to influence all levels of the organisation; skilled at presenting to senior audiences
  • Able to develop strong working relationships with management and external resources
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, and able to drive others
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the target customer and of product trends
  • Works well as part of a cross-functional team with the ability to collaborate, influence, and interact at all levels of the organisation. 
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills; English a must
