The first through Production Pattern Maker will demonstrate expertise and knowledge in Apparel Production concepts, practices, and procedures. The ideal candidate will have proven success in an Apparel/Garment construction and Manufacturing environment or in a related field. The Pattern Maker is responsible to create patterns that are in line with the directions given by the designer and is responsible for a cross-functional position that interacts with both the creative and executive parts of the business. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish Departmental goals. 

Duties:

  • Understands/translates design intent from sketches or vintage garments into pattern form
  • Able to partner with sewers and tech designers and have knowledge of sewing construction in order to create production friendly garments
  • Manage pattern design software systems (Tuka/Gerber) 
  • Responsible to maintain full history of patterns from development to production
  • Creates pattern card for every pattern assigned
  • Has knowledge of shrinkages and be ability to apply them to patterns
  • Responsible to spec garments before and after wash
  • Attends every fitting that pertains to their patterns and keep accurate notes to be able to apply them to patterns
  • Ensures quality and on time delivery of assignments
  • Performs grading on patterns and checks grading nest when returned
  • Calculates yield of garments and advises ways to provide fabric savings
  • Flexibility in prioritizing work flow, while managing multiple development and production projects

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8-10 years experience in a domestic production environment
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office: Outlook, Excel, Word
  • 5 years of pattern design software systems (Tuka/Gerber) experience preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills supporting a team environment and time management/project skills 
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with a sense of priority for deadlines and attention to detail
  • Ability to recognize and react to changing work demands
  • Knowledge of production: testing protocol, production integrity, production cycle times, fabric and garment construction
  • Ability to demonstrate proactive problems solving skills
  • Ability to monitor sewer performance, to provide feedback, and to develop employees 
  • Ability to create and maintain a cooperative team environment that promotes high performance standards and attainment of goals
  • Knowledge of varying constructions - wovens, knits, and vintage garments 
  • Ability to digitize hand pattern to dfx file
