POSITION OBJECTIVE:
This position is responsible for managing the reporting and compliance cycle for sales and use tax. On a monthly basis, this position is required to gather the data for sales & use tax returns, reconcile balances to the general ledger, and provide the reconciled information to a third-party preparer for timely filing of all sales and use tax returns. Once the returns are filed, this position prepares related accounts payable posting information and ensures payments have been posted to the general ledger in a timely manner. In addition, this position is responsible for monitoring sales and use tax rate changes as well as reviewing and responding to incoming sales and use tax communications. This position will also assist with all field and desk audits from state and local government authorities by compiling data and gathering invoices per the auditor's requests.

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Assists with all tax responsibilities for locations/sales & use tax rates within various databases required to track sales & use tax information (SAP, Point of Sale & Vertex).
- Prepares and posts month-end journal entries related to sales and use tax compliance.
- Gathers monthly sales & use tax data and reconcile the data to provide to third-party compliance partner(s).
- Prepares and completes all internal monthly reconciliation documents for approval and submission to general accounting.
- Prepares all payment posting uploads of the monthly sales and use tax returns to provide to accounts payable.
- Works with internal IT department peers on upgrades and changes of Vertex software products utilized for sales & use tax rates and the related register and online interfaces.
- Directly assists on all state and local audit engagements and sales & use tax correspondence received by phone/mail.
- Gathers requested data and invoicing for all sales & use tax audits.
- Prepares the month-end reconciliation for sales & use tax and other related accounts for all brands.
- Compiles and communicates monthly sales and use tax rate changes and store updates, including annual sales "tax-free" periods, to multiple internal partners and departments.
- Assists with providing guidance on sales and use tax issues that arise internally from customer service inquiries and other departments.
- Assists with special projects as needed, such as bag bans and related fees, maintenance and communications throughout the related departments.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, or related field required
- 3+ years' work experience in accounting
- 1-2 years in sales tax preferred
- PC skills, including intermediate knowledge of excel spreadsheets
- Knowledge of the Vertex software system preferred
- Knowledge of the Alteryx software package preferred
- Problem solving skills, including issue identification and resolution
- Time management skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Adaptable to change
