As Senior Sales Manager - Business Development (North Europe) (m/f/d), you will drive our expansion strategy, driving growth in selected suburban areas in Northern Europe, accelerating the acquisition of retailers, signing up their store(s) so that they can sell to customers via our platform. You will build networks in key Northern European suburban areas where the vast majority of independent stores operate. Your primary objective will be to plan and deploy territory specific sales acquisition processes through a combination of sales partnerships and tactical activities, to build a consistently strong sales pipeline. You are part of one of the most innovative Zalando teams, reinventing retail: Online-to-Offline.
WHERE YOUR EXPERTISE IS NEEDED
  • Research, plan and execute. You will own the strategy and the end to end planning process for winning in key North European suburban areas, prioritising the right geographical territories to maximise rapid growth, targeting the right partner segments
  • Activate and engage. You will develop and drive partnerships with sales partners and ground teams according to our strategic acquisition strategy - defining targets and winning deals as you work closely with our Central and International sales teams. Leading and owning the business development strategy to engage with sales partners, you will identify and build tangible use cases and partnership opportunities while driving the internal governance to secure alignment and support for key partnerships with Connected Retail leadership
  • Steer, track and control. Drive a constant focus on the acquisition performance of our sales partners and ground teams, prioritising the achievement of monthly targets, reporting on the development of KPI's and defining strategies to correct deviations. You are ultimately responsible for reaching monthly acquisition targets, providing sales forecasts, opportunity and threat assessments and new initiatives.
  • Build alliances. You will be the ideal role model securing commitment to the strategies and targets you develop. You will also promote a collaborative spirit with the central and international sales teams as you work closely with Regional, Country Managers and our Sales Leads. Your key partner will be our marketing team and our business development team
  • Own your success. You will work closely with Connected Retail sales leadership who will challenge and support you to achieve the required impact. You have a great deal of freedom in choosing strategies to achieve your goals and, if necessary, adjust your course as needed
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • 5 + years international experience in the lifestyle industry (e.g. fashion, sportswear, beauty) in either a business development, strategic partnership or commercial leadership role with a proven record of delivering results through sales acceleration projects
  • Sales affinity, goal orientation and leadership characterize you: Being a highly organised business development leader you are able to deliver business cases and a project roadmap within set deadlines. Your knowledge of superior business transactions such as Retail Operations (B2B + B2C), Sales Partnerships (Trade associations, retail operators and sales agents) as well as the development of tactical opportunities will inspire others. Our team is important to us, so not only are you a strong self-starter with the ability to work independently, you should also be a good team player
  • Proven expertise and experience in drafting and negotiating partnership and commercial contracts. Developing engagement strategies to connect with senior partnership profiles come naturally to you. You have a good network within the European brand and retail leadership community and you can nurture and leverage these relationships to support our expansion strategy
  • An agile mind, strong communication and influence skills are self-evident for you. Solid experience of developing strategic relationships and managing internal and external stakeholders, whilst working within cross functional teams, maintaining engagement and ensuring commercial momentum
  • As a start-up, our leaders should be inspiring, persuasive and informative. You should be able to excite our sales teams and your stakeholders with your passion and knowledge and be confident but empathetic as you confront tough challenges and drive successful outcomes. Excellent spoken and written English and German (also Dutch and a Nordic would also be ideal but not mandatory)
