The Position

The Software Development Manager has several key focus areas, such as:
  • Team delivery and growth:
You are accountable for the delivery and growth of your development team whereby you partner with your product peer to ensure:
  • Teams have the right composition and capacity to fulfill delivery of their roadmap:
Monitoring current capacity and skill set of teams Recruiting & hiring team members internally & externally Policies and practices for recruitment are used and improved Serving and collaborating with domains, Domain Owners, Development Managers, Product Owners & Agile Specialists
  • Be the sparring partner for the Product Owners within your scope of influence.
Ensure a healthy balance between new deliverables and technical improvements (refactoring). Collaborate and inform the product owner on all possible technical solutions, allowing and empowering them to take a well-informed decision. Provide advice from your experience on trade-offs on different architectures, frameworks and technologies aligned to our microservice-first ambitions. Be present in relevant Agile meetings, for example, refinement sessions. Assisting the Product Owners with cross-team dependency mapping for new features.
  • Developing Teams. Supporting teams to self-improve:

    Supporting Teams through HR activities (training, coaching: whatever makes a team better)

    Ensuring training and improvement programs are in place for team members

  • Monitoring and managing delivery of the teams in their development team:

    Determining the KPIs with the team using the five pillars of the Well-Architected Framework from AWS

    Challenging the team and Product Owner to balance functional and nonfunctional requirements

    Driving and monitoring continuous improvements of practices and deliverables in a sustainable way.

    Promoting and developing Agile & Tech Principles together with other Development Members, Product Owners, and key team members.

  • People Leadership/Ownership.
The Development Manager is responsible for the delivery and well-being of the teams in their development team. The Development Manager coaches and challenges their teams to build high performance within their teams. Where the team can't solve it on its own, the Development Manager offers support with his/her own experience or bringing in other skillset into the company.
  • Engineering leadership.
Responsible for operational excellence of the teams by monitoring KPIs, for example, number and duration of outages. Guiding the teams and ensuring improvement in all areas of engineering practices. This person ensures focus on nonfunctional requirements, they strive for balance between delivering functionality at speed with technical quality. Monitors deliverables of the teams via the 5 pillars of the Well-Architected Framework: Security, Reliability, Scalability, Cost Optimization and Operational Excellence. This person drives continuous improvements in each of those pillars.
  • Process leadership.
Accountable for engineering success. Additionally, accountable for recruitment success along with the recruitment team ensuring we find and hire top-notch team members. This person ensures we have a standardized process guided by KPIs, so we can learn from the past and improve our process.
  • Figurehead and spokesperson.
Inspiring and guiding their development team(s). This person challenges the status quo of team performances and deliverables. They display ownership to the teams, domains and senior management. They also advocate for technical developments in conjunction with the product owner.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Translate business strategy into long-term architectural roadmaps for teams to deliver quality technical solutions for smart sourcing and automated online sales based on PVH's platform tech stack.
  • Provide advice from your experience on trade-offs on different architectures, frameworks and technologies aligned to company standards.
  • Build exceptionally strong working relationships with product managers and designers to ensure feasibility and guiding hypotheses in early product development stages; working collaboratively to remove unnecessary complexity starting from the customer backwards.
  • Coordinate with engineering managers, leads and technical functions across the business on solution proposals, including system interfaces for end-to-end solutions.
  • Work with engineers to follow well defined processes and principles to deliver step change improvements and new innovative features aligned to future roadmaps.
  • Foster a mentorship culture among engineers and further develop lead engineers into engineering managers, providing actionable feedback and growth opportunities.
  • Mentor and lead engineering leads and engineers for 2-3 teams.
  • Actively contributes to the engineering community by sharing best practices and learning, as well as hiring high quality engineers.

Experience And Specialized Knowledge
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 7+ years for relevant working experience
  • Experience in leading team/teams
  • Working experience of working with non-technical people
  • Experience with CI/CD and DevOps way of working
  • Working experience of AWS or other Cloud providers
  • Experience with BDD/TDD
  • Experience with Docker

Nice to have
  • Knowledge of web standards and accessibility is a plus
  • Knowledge of Typescript is a plus
  • Working experience with GraphQL is a plus
  • Experience of working with vendors is a plus
  • Experience with eCommerce, commerce or fashion is a plus
