The Senior Global Diversity and Belonging Specialist (EMEA) will work closely with the Senior Lead of Diversity and Belonging and the Diversity and Belonging Technical Lead (Systems and Strategy) to implement the Global Diversity and Belonging Strategy in EMEA. The Senior Global Diversity and Belonging Specialist (EMEA) will also work closely with EMEA leads, individual contributors, and EMEA Talent officials to support all employee and merchant initiatives and programming in the region.

The Senior Global Diversity and Belonging Specialist (EMEA) will be responsible for leading the implementation of Shopify's Global Diversity and Belonging Strategy in EMEA with the primary goal of threading diversity and belonging topics and best practices into existing frameworks, events, and touch points while also designing new, bespoke programs and initiatives. The Diversity and Belonging team works in a range of areas including research and learning; Talent programs; community-building initiatives; and storytelling, including Shopify's recently launched series Born for Business .

The Specialist will support EMEA-based teams in the design of their diversity and belonging work plans, provide subject matter expertise to the EMEA teams, partner with Talent on regional initiatives and processes, and establish external partnerships with organizations representing underrepresented communities.

Responsibilities include:
  • Lead the implementation of Shopify's Global Diversity and Belonging Strategy in EMEA.
  • Manage and support the annual work planning process under the strategy with leadership teams in EMEA as a way to bring diversity and belonging goals to life through tangible initiatives and actions.
  • Support EMEA-based teams in the implementation of their annual work plans through the provision of subject-matter expertise, training, facilitation, and implementation support.
  • Partner with Talent teams in EMEA on diversity and belonging issues related to hiring,performance, impact, compensation, Talent development, attrition and culture.
  • Partner with Product and Commercial teams to offer D&B insights and expertise into the development of their general plans and programs.
  • Liaise and establish partnerships with other tech companies in the region and organizations supporting underrepresented communities in the region.
  • Develop a regional working group of tech companies and diversity and belonging experts.
  • Support the internationalization of our ERG program to ensure that its impact is realized.
  • Work with People Analytics and Talent research teams to identify underrepresented groups in the region and work with Talent teams and leadership teams to develop bespoke programming and initiatives to reach these groups.


Qualifications

  • Experience in or in-depth knowledge of the global diversity and belonging space.
  • Excellent writing, editing, presentation and communication skills.
  • Experience consulting with and getting buy-in from different communities and populations.
  • Experience working with people around the world and with different cultures.
  • Local knowledge and expertise about diversity and belonging in EMEA.
  • Connections to underrepresented communities outside of Shopify in the region.
  • Experience designing and conducting surveys and evaluating the results of surveys and translating those results into plans.
  • A track record of creativity and innovation.
  • Experience building a partnerships strategy and developing partnerships.
  • Experience teaching others about diversity and belonging.
  • Experience facilitating a variety of conversations with diverse perspectives present.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed, with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong cross-functional/collaboration skills, relationship building skills and the ability to achieve results without direct reporting relationships.
  • Ability to develop a big picture and long-term vision as well as maintain a strong attention to detail in individual projects and tasks.
  • Extensive understanding of and experience in program and project management.

  • Experience, qualifications and/or training in representing underrepresented communities in the context of a global brand.
  • Experience working in the tech space or another high-paced industry - it's important to understand our platform and the products we deliver.
  • A ruthless attention to detail.
